Install/Reinstall procedure

[MAN-AT-ARMS]

1. Install game
If the setup on the CD auto-runs, close the installer and browse to the setup file on the disc.
Right-click on the setup exe and choose 'Run As Administrator' (On Windows Vista and higher).
(This will allow your CD key to be written to the install folder.)

2. Install 1.4 (full) patch (Required)

3. Install 1.41 patch (Recommended)

Linux: http://stats.ecgnetwork.co/rtcw_files/patches/linux/wolf-linux-update-1.41.x86.run
Mac: http://stats.ecgnetwork.co/rtcw_files/patches/mac/rtcw_141beta.sit
Note: Mac version will not work on OSX 10.7 and higher since Apple dropped support for PPC binaries.

4. Install 1.41b patch (Optional - Recommended)

Windows & Linux:
Linux: http://stats.ecgnetwork.co/rtcw_files/patches/windows/Wolf-1.41b.zip
Note: This is just a zip file. Unzip and copy the executable to your wolf folder.

5. Delete the pb folder inside your "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" folder.

6. Download the RTCW Punkbuster files:

All versions: http://stats.ecgnetwork.co/rtcw_files/pb/rtcw-pb.zip
Unzip this file and place the pb folder inside your "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" install folder.

7. Download PBSVC.

Right-click on exe and choose 'Run As Administrator' (On Windows Vista and higher)

8. Right click on the icon for Wolfenstein Multiplayer. Choose 'Run As Administrator' (On Windows Vista and higher)

9. At menu bring down console and type /seta cl_punkbuster 1 . (Alternatively, edit this cvar in your wolfconfig_mp.cfg file manually with Notepad.) Quit out of game. Double click on wolf icon again and go to Multiplayer menu. Make sure it says Punkbuster is enabled.

10. Connect to a server.

7/27/2013 Update. Fixed links

Im trying to install after uninstalling years ago and deleting all old files. When its installing, it gets stuck on 50% of pak0 and makes me abort. It says i/o error, corrupt instalation file, any ideas?

For Windows I don't think there is a "full" update to 1.41.

1.41 is an incremental patch (as is 1.41b)

Hi,

I got a problem connecting to rtcw servers with pb on. If I want to connect I got the standard error message "punkbuster anti cheat software must be installed ..."

I have rtcw 1.41b installed with pb enabled - if I start the multiplayer I see no servers to connect.
Also I have version 1.42a update. If I start the ioWolfMP.x86 I see lots of servers, also egn 24/7 beach but if I connect I got that pb error message.

This is a selfextracting zip which says steam rtcw not found. (I dont have steam)
-> Right now my antivirus has removed that file, it says it´s a trojan :/

In the end I would be very happy if anybody can help to get that pb running, so I can connect to rtcw again!

The s4ndmod fix DOES work. It is not a virus. Disable your anti virus and re install it. Once it's finished, open multiplayer, go to the server list and click GET NEW LIST. Make sure that you enable punkbuster in the top right corner of the server browser.

This file would not install, it errored out.
I found an copy of the same patch file on my old XP box, and it also failed to install on my new box.
I'm figuring it to be a Windows 10 thingy.

For me, that was the key.
RTCW is drag and drop (old to new Windows version). The problem is Punkbuster for multiplayer.
Dragging and dropping a copy of my old RTCW directory to my new computer, and reinstalling Punkbuster, using rtcw-pb.zip and pbsvc.exe worked great.

My concern is for new players, who do not have an old, working copy of RTCW. The 1.4 patch is problematlic (at least on my Skylake/Windows 10 box).

Hi I have just installed the 1.41 disc platinum edition on my windows xp lap top...and I'm clicking on multiplayer and its saying create on ui failed lol????...I dont know where to go from there ... I'm no good at this...does this mean I'll have to delete the pb folder and replace it all ???

The means you're either missing the cgame/ui dll files and/or the mp_bin.pk3 file.

The 1.41 client/install you would also need to run as Administrator on Windows.
