Why is the ecgnetwork server set to pure?

I liked the server and I like playing with a mod called Merciless. But now that I can't connect to the server. I don't think I will be playing in it anymore.

The decision was made to go pure because it keeps texture hackers out. They are working on something where a pure server will still allow merciless. Even without MC you won't find a better server to play on.
