Decided by whom? Out of interest.

I love chinatown, glad to see that up so high. I showed my family Brick recently which is basically a remake of Chinatown with high school kids. It's pretty good but the long and the short of it is that while watching it emerged that none of my family had ever watched Chinatown. A real omgwtf! momment, my family are phillistines...

I remember the last top 100. There are obviously places and films we'd all like to see higher or lower, but overall I think you can look at the placings generally;

Top 10
Top 25
Top 50.

There are some great movies here, too many to name or talk about. Apparently Godfather made a move on the number 1 slot, and Raging Bull jumped some 12 spots since the last list.

One nit-pick; Fucking Titanic #83? Are they effin kidding?

Steven King summed it up when he said, "I knew I had brain damage (from a bad accident he was in) when I cried while watching Titanic."

LoL as much as I hate it, it's not unreasonable to have the highest grossing film of all time on the list of greatest movies. That's why I asked who compiled the list and based on what.

not sure about this exactly. ...but the American Film Institute puts out the list.. there is more information here at thier web site..

I would guess thier board of directors and people from the entertainment industry help compile the list..

"selected by a blue-ribbon panel of leaders from across the film community."

Whatever that means. Explains the number of ever so slightly pretentious productions on the list mind as I imagine a lot of whatever the american "luvvies" (if you have such a thing) got a vote :)

Just think, in like, 10 years, Transformers is going to bump one of those movies from the list.

I have to admit, Transformers sounds gayer than Richard Simmons, but the previews and trailers I've seen look impressive.

I'm not ashamed to say I loved that movie! The sequels blew, but the original is classic 80s comedy.

I'm glad to see 'Jaws' made the list, it truly was great.
