Interesting question, depends on which direction the dog is facing i guess. Also if the dog was in Seattle or in a rain forest then the dog ass would receive significantly less sun one would imagine.
Makes you wonder where the phrase came from, maybe also because they lay down a lot also, but when they are laying down, their "ass" is still kind of visible.
I hope this answer was sufficient. i tried to research where the phrase came from and had no luck.

If a tree falls in a forest and no-one hears it. Does anybody care?

Yes I have a question.
Preamble: In an Identity Management system, if an authorized entity is requested to perform an identity management operation on a target entity, such as activation, deactivation or termination, it should be a prerequisite, as part of the process, to verify that the target entity found in the system is indeed the one intended in the request.
Question: Would that verification be defined as an "Identification" or an "Authentication"?

Other than the tree huggers or any animals that may in fact be living in that tree, no.

We use a program called identity manager to create id's at work. We use Authenticate as the term. Either term if used consistently would probably get the job done but I would go with authentication.
