The Somme

Hi

For those interested in history and the Great war. ( 1914-1918 )

here is a link to rare BBC made documentary of the infamous WW1 "Battle of the Somme" of 1916 .

On the first day of battle the British and her allies had over 60000 casualties in which 20000 died

The documentary was made in 1976 and although the quality is not the best , it is however a very moving account of what occured.
Particularly sad is what happened to the New Foundlanders who attacked
at Beaumont-Hamel .
