Stuttering in Half Life 2

Has anyone found a fix for the stuttering issue in Half Life 2?
After spending 3 days downloading the damn thing, I would kinda like to play without all of these glitches
That too much to ask Valve?
It took me a good 2.5 years of "testing" before I finally agreed to buy Wolf, Half Lifes looking at maybe 5
