Server Kicks and bans me

Thu Apr 12, 2007 3:17 pm

I recently upgraded to windows vista , I am running the game as an administrator. The game worked fine, I updated punkbuster to do this, No I get kicked with a "Blank CD_KEY" message! the CD key is in the RTCW Folder!
What gives?
Thanks for any help

Vista and Punkbuster don't get along. Just ask Shipwreck.

Yeah I am beginning to see this! Vista is a real pain... Guess I put the XP disk back in

Actually, there is a new version of Punkbuster client that should work on Vista, without requiring that you are an Administrator.

The rtcwkey file belongs in the 'Main' folder, make sure that's where it is.

Also you might want to manually update your Punkbuster files with the PBSetup program...

On Vista you might need to install the Punkbuster Service which you might need to manually install too. Here's the link to that....

Thanks for the input! I found a solution that works beautifully! Right click the shortcut, properties, compatibility run in windows XP SP2 mode! Voila everything is as it was I can join and play once more! I had updated the punkbuster client before I tried compatibility mode.

Yep. Just be forwarned that your fps will drop. At least mine did.. ALOT. Also make sure pb_sleep is @ 500.. This will help also. I tried to play the game when it finally worked. But it seems to laggy for some reason. Must be my system configuration. I wish they had a pee icon. Because thats what I want to do to Vista right now. Only other thing I could suggest for problems that are not fixiable right now is to.

1. Partition the HD and add XP.
2. Get another HD, & load XP and duel boot. Which is what i'm going to do very soon.
3. Stay the heck away from Vista if possible atm. Which is kind of hard if you buy a retail PC like I did.

Some people aren't having problems. Like Buli.. for some reason. And some of us can't catch a break.
