Logitech also has a cordless model, but in my experience, the batteries seem to make the mouse very "heavy", also you may experience very small times of lag, especially if you own a 2.5ghz cordless phone.
Go corded, and be sure to use the usb!!!

The optical mouse only needs batteries if it is wireless.
I am using a MS explorer optical right now (not wireless, I took my wireless back), and it does work very well, but I would rather graduate to the Logitec.
