Nobody is like the 'rest of the world', everyone is different. Why do you speak English and not Latin?
Because (assuming you're English) your culture evolved on an island, somewhat apart from the others. Someday Americans, British, and Australians will not be able to understand each other at all. Our slang words grow apart, our pronunciation grows apart.
As for the Metric system, it's very slowly taking hold in America, very very slowly.
That probably has more to do with the relationship of consumer/supplier.
Ironic that you should mention the whole 'world revolving around us' bit, and then go on to assume that our choice of language is somehow related to our relationship with you.

Waldo, AFAIK, is a person who had some run ins with Doc and back to enjoy Doc's fall from grace.

Really? I was thinking of changing it, it's getting kind of old. Yeah, it is funny, I ripped it off from Maddox, The Greatest Page in the Universe. I think he actually sells a T-Shirt with that logo, along with some other funny stuff.

Look around his archives, he has some pretty funny rants

I love the one where he makes the case that Whales are dumb because they haven't figured out how to breath underwater. His stuff on beating kids is funny. Like I say, a page I enjoy when I'm feeling bitter or cynical.
