Is this possible?

Ok...I have been wondering for a while if this was possible.

I cannot afford a 4.1 speaker system at the moment, so i was looking for a "ghetto" fix.

Right now i have audigy 2.1 speakers w/ audigy 2.

And i was wondering if i could hook up my sisters speakers behind me to get a surround sound sort of effect?

Yeah it'll work..but don't count on the rear speakers to be in sync with the base from the subwoofer though. Why? Because real 4.1 and 5.1 sets, their satellite speakers all connect to the subwoofer. And from the subwoofer there are connections made to the sound card itself.

So from sound card it goes to the sub, from the sub it goes into the satellites and you get bass and all the effects the set carries, including volume control. I don't know about you but it would be a pain in the ass to have to adjust both the front speakers volume as well as the rear. Real 4.1 and 5.1 sets, just turn one knob or push one button and the volume is in sync.

You would have to inline a potentiometer on each of the rear speakers to ensure that they got the proper volume level. And tehy wouldn't really be surround sound, just mirrors of the front speakers to which they connect. Also, you would be reducing the load on the amplifier probably from 8 to 4 Ohms (possibly lower if the speakers were rated witha lower resistence to begin with), and the amp may not like that, especially a small computer speaker amp. It's likely that you would blow it.

Logitech 4.1 for about $50. Some really nice speakers for that price...

Or on PriceWatch.com, $70 USD for the Altec Lansing 251...

5.1 sound, I have these and they're great.

Besides, it's a waste of a pricy audigy 2 if you're only using 2 channels...the audigy 2 is capable of 6.1 surround sound.
