Ok. I am probably going to TRY to get a Radeon 9800 Pro or a Geforce FX 5900. I am more likely though, to get a Radeon 9700 Pro. <------Is that a good one? How does it compare with the higher Cards? Oh and if I get the 9700 Pro it would be for less than $150.

9700pro compares closely with a 9800pro. it's a fast card

I recently got a 9700Pro, awesome card, even though the drivers on the CD wouldn't install.Originally posted by shockwave203

And I get real good framerates on just about everything at 1024x768 and 1280x1024. (My moniter won't go any higher! doh!)

Do you mind me asking what a P4 3.4 was worth? I would love to upgrade my CPU...of course, I will likely have to upgrade my mobo too

The new comp is running fine. If everything goes according to plan I will get on tonight with it after I get the soundcard put in (I would have installed it last night but I had been drinking and didn't want to mess anything up inside). The only problem with it is that my CD-ROM drive doesn't show up. I have it wired on the same cable as my DVD burner, and I think I will have to tinker with the master/slave settings. I am not worried about that one since I believe that will be a minor issue once I try to fix it. If anyone wants to give me advice, they are both made by plextor.
The P4 3.4 set me back $425 on newegg.com. They have some 3.4 extreme chip that goes for $800 or $900. I decided I didn't need to go that crazy. I just figured it was time to upgrade my Dell P4 1.8.

My score just dropped a bit with the new Cats 4.4.
Seems I'm only hitting mid to high 5700s with the vid card on the 'balanced' settings, I did have it right on 5800 before.
My specs: (nothing OC'ed)
P4 3.0 800 ht
AIW 9800 pro 128mb
1 g 3200 ddr 400 DC
Creative Sound Audigy 2
Intel MB 875P chipset
