Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Ah, Caepolla..you are falling into the trap of the sterotype! Most Americans don't see France as a place full of stinky, insulting, unshaved people with an attitude the size of the Eiffel tower. That's why I asked for those types of comments to be left out of this thread, they do nothing but show bigotry, which is always ugly and shows a small mind.
I've known many French citizens, and I've found most of them to be good people for the most part. Some are the sterotypical image, but they tend to be few and very far inbetween, in my experience.
I live in Oklahoma, supposed home of rednecks, cowboys and hillbillys. Nevermind that we have some rather excellent centers of higher learning, medical research, industry, and technical expertise, we're the butt of many jokes and sterotypes in the US and probably the world. I've known a few of these sterotypes here, but not many. A good friend of mine calls himself a redneck, and does typical redneck things. But if you met him on the street and started talking to him, you'd never know it from his general demeanor and attitudes. I myself grew up on a working cattle ranch, an actual cowboy. But I don't think I represent myself that way to the world, do I? Would anyone here, other then Colt, have ever guessed I grew up in a town of less then 3000 people, lived on a farm, worked cattle, hauled hay and did other similiar things as a child and young adult?
Don't sterotype people, you'll find you are usually far from the reality of what the person is really like, be it a single person or an entire nation.

Would never have guessed Kristov. Hello, Okie! I was born in OKC and lived in the area for a few years. Still have lots of family there and other parts of OK.
Living in a state that's the butt of many jokes is all right with me. Contrary to popular belief, there's lots of beautiful country in Oklahoma. Who wants a bunch of idiots moving in and spoiling it?
Ever been to Turner Falls? If not you must check it out. I think of that place everytime someone talks about OK being a barren wasteland.
Good day, Kristov...hick bastard:D

Check this out.

It may not prove anything, but it does seem to show that not even Arab or Muslim states are safe from Iraqi or terrorist retaliations.

Isn't this treason? Should these idiots ever be allowed back into the US, except to face serious charges?

I hope you're not talking about OU. Also, I think hillbillies are from West Virginia.

I don't know what the deal is with the link, but it was one of the Post's editorials for today which basically asked "What is France doing playing games with NATO?" That question is just the simplified version of:
(1) France voted for Resolution 1441 which authorized serious consequences (paraphrased) if Iraq failed to cooperate with the inspections. Everyone, including France, knew that this could lead to possible military action against Iraq;
(2) Turkey borders Iraq, so they would be an obvious target of retaliatory Iraqi military action in the event the military action contemplated by No. 1 became necessary;
(3) Turkey is a member of NATO, which means that the other members are bound to assist it in the event it is attacked;
and (4) So WTF are France and Germany doing creating obstacles to the potentially necessary defense of Turkey?
The New York Times had a similar editorial today on the same page previously pointed out by Caepolla. The point is simple that if France and Germany do not want to take part in military action, fine; but they shouldn't block a request by the Turks for assistance to which they are entitled under the NATO Charter. I for one think that they have seriously overplayed their hand on this one, and that there will probably be serious repercussions for NATO. Think about how Poland or Hungary might feel knowing that France might try a similar veto if they are ever threatened by a resurgent Russia.

Doug, I was born in OKC, lived most of my life in/around it until I was 18, when I moved up to T-Town, been here most of the time since, a few years spent on both coasts during the past 18 yrs. I love Turner Falls, spent many a weekend there during summers as a kid, even took my own kids there a few years back. I've lived all over the country, and no where compares, to me, to the beauty of Oklahoma. That's probably because it's my home though
And, listening to me on TS or reading what my posts, no, you'd never know I was born and raised an Okie, land of rednecks and cowboys. And how many would guess that many of my views and values are the common ones for most Okies? We may be a backward state in some respects, but those tend to be governmental aspects, not moral or philosophical. Simply proves my point about sterotypes and bigotry, don't fall for that, don't use them, it really does imply a small and ugly mind.

Hey Kristov, here's one for you. As you may know, I grew up in Arkansas (semi-near Ft. Smith). So how long ago did YOU get sick of the term "Arklahoma"?
Or do they even use that term in Tulsa?
I was 6 when I first went to Turner Falls. I saw this tiny cave near the falls that was completely filled around its walls with those daddy-long-leg spiders (I know, not really "spiders"). Suddenly this huge centipede (the kind you have nightmares about when you're a kid!) emerges from inside the cave and ambushes them all, spiraling around the cave as if from some video game. I was both horrified and amazed. It still ranks as one of the coolest "nature scenes" that I've ever seen.
As far as stereotypes go, people can think that stuff all they want (about Arkies or Okies). Sure, it's not constructive outside of a humorous setting. But I like to think they help keep people from moving into and plundering beautiful, unspoiled country. Yes, I know, I said something like this already.
"And, listening to me on TS or reading what my posts, no, you'd never know I was born and raised an Okie, land of rednecks and cowboys."
Wow, I understand that completely. I was always accused of sounding like I was from California since I had no Southern accent to speak of (except when drinking!). And no, it wasn't because I sounded like a surfer dude.

BTW, I only lived in CA for a year (went to kindergarten in Long Beach). So when you see an episode of Rockford Files or CHiPs or Charlie's Angels, that's the CA that I remember.

I'm not sure if I should be annoyed at this premise or at the worsening state of television and those worthless reality shows.

No Doug, Arklahoma isn't used around here.
Growing up on a working cattle ranch, I saw more biology and natural sciences at work then most kids ever see outside of college. Also developed on hell of a taste for fresh red meat..go figure. After raising pigs, I have very LITTLE taste for pork...if you've raised them, you'd understand.
