Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Am I the only one that does not see the humor in making fun of these people?

Freedom I see the humor.. but I realize that it is about as adolescent as can be. This place does have a pack mentality at times. Sorry to the rest of you, but this reeks of a lame attempt at boosting your own self esteems at someone else's expense. Many times the cliche's and stereotypes of computer folk are proven true here.

Freedom... Ruci and I both agree with you (see his earlier post).

Cpl... that is the same as saying that the mechanic that "plants" oil under your car to show that you need major work done shouldn't be held accountable because the car owner should have known.

You are trying to relate it to ignorance of the law is no excuse.... but because someone else is ignorant of a law does not excuse one's self accountability.

We all are ignorant to things that someone else is knowledgable in.

The problem with this was not that the noob was ignorant, it was that someone took the opportunity to abuse that situation. I hope that anyone that thinks this is funny never cries foul over ANY type of con that they might face in the future. I have found that the people that laugh at this type of stuff are the usually the first ones to whine and moan when the are wronged in even the slightest way.

We can all be conned on something.

Sun May 18, 2003 6:41 pm

Of course we all could be conned. And I'm in no way saying the person doing the conning is innocent simply because the person he was conning fell for it. But life experiece has shown that you never have to fall for a con if you've got more than a couple of brain cells.

Sure, I wasn't innocent in fooling my employee with the netsend commands, but I was proving a point not because they were ignorant of what I was doing, but because they were purposely being stubborn in a work environment.

And your example of the crooked mechanic, yes he was at fault. But the person who fell for the con was at fault too. In that case, if you don't know enough about your own car that you can't tell when someone is lying about an aspect of it, well boo hoo, too bad. And again with my employee, if they were hired for a job that's entirely on the computer, if they don't know enough to realize a netsend command is not a error window, and to waste time dealing with it, again, too bad for them.

OMFG THAT WAS SO HILAROUS!!! BUT I KINDA FEEL SORRY FOR HIM!!! OMG LMAO I CANT STOP LAUGHING HAHAHAHA

Sun May 18, 2003 10:01 pm

What may seem funny to a lot of people....is really fucked up!
Sorry but its true and you guys shouldn't be taking advantage of people like that.

It will more than likely come back to you!

I see your point.

Now maybe I am a hypocrit.. or maybe my line in the sand is blurred... but I thought that your netsend prank (wasn't that the one where you had the guy do the funky things?) was hilarious.

I am a huge practical joker, but I think that when it starts to do damage to someone...it goes to far.

I too love jokes. But they are only good if the subject of the joke is strong enough (physically, mentally, and/or emotionally) to take it. Jokes that go too far don't toughen people up or make them more wise. Those kind of jokes only make people trust others less - and THAT is a very bad thing.

Ok. Enough Father speeches for tonight.

I'm an avid practical jokester. I draw the line at damage. Cpl. Bingham's plastic bottle prank is funny if the victim doesn't suffer from the embarrassment. There is no way I could consider having a guy deltree his hard disk funny. Seems to me like making fun of retarded people.

I think you were refering to my joke with the guy and the water cooler bottle.....I'm sorry but it was pretty damn funny sorry we don't share the same sence of humor no matter how twisted and warp it is:freak:

Camel, see i thought that that was funny as hell.. if the guy would be able to take it .. or if he did practical jokes to others.

And its because of assholes like them guys that some people just say fuck it and shy away from technology. I never will take pleasure at the way people treat others like they are less than human just because they dont know much about computers. Everyone has to learn about computers at some point and the point he shouldn't have to learn it at is not having to re-install his entire system because a couple of 10 year olds thought it would be funny. Immature prank that only immature people will find funny. Goes to show the intelligence level of some in these forums.

it has nothing to do with technology it's called common sence if your boss calls you and tells you he set up a hidden camera and then started telling you to do stuff like put a bottle on you head would you do it....common sence...
