you want the full spectrum of the Lord of the Rings? read the books, they left out sooooooooo many freaking plotlines.

I hate talking to fanboys who have only seen the movies and know crap about Aragon's real age, close to 100 (he's 87), his origin as a Dunedain and Tolkien never wanted it to be a Trilogy as so many ppl are calling it.

He wrote the entire story as one book, it was divided by modern publishers for logistics publishing reasons. Like, who would want to buy a 4000-5000 page book, literally how would you hold it, you know how thick it would be?

There were no elves at Helm's Deep in the Two Towers in the book, wtf was that in the movie?

What else, Saruman took over the Shire and enslaved everyone at the end of ROTK, but of course, you don't see that in the movie. You don't see the 4 Hobbits organizing a rebellion and fighting back and Grima Wormtongue ultimately kills Saruman... (Actually, Saruman wasn't in ROTK movie at all! For extended DVD, yes as it has been confirmed with Peter Jackson.)

Bagginses, you're waiting till Saturday!? I figured you of all people would be there at 12.01am.

I know, i figured that too, but I have to wait. #1 I'm in the middle of my final exams, so I have those until tomorrow. #2 the theater here at school is really bad. it's only $5 to see a movie, but the sound is bad, the pictures are too dark. So, I figured I'd wait until I get home on Saturday and go see it in a nice theater. It's an excruciating wait, but I think I can make it. I just keep telling myself that the wait will make the movie better.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I have to keep telling so many people to just go and read the books, It'll make them appreciate the movies 10 times more.

My full edition of Lord of the Rings. Not a great picture of it, but it's about 1200 pages, and has a great fold-out map.

Yar I am one of those guys who like the books better than the movies in almost every case.

There was a lot missing/changed in the second movie that bothered me. I really got the sense that all the MEN were petty and power hungry. In the books King Theoden was really noble and strong willed after being freed from Saruman/Wyrmtongue's hold and in the movie he was a whiney moody indecisive wimp. And it was the ENT's that killed all the Orcs that NEVER penetrated Helm's deep. Faromir was noble and aided Frodo without getting all greedy over the ring or trying to take him to Gondor. He aided Frodo on his way.

Regardless it is totally worth seeing just to see Gollum! Gollum ROCKED and his "conversations" with Smeagol were creepier than Hannibal Lector mind raping Clarice Starling in Silence of the Lambs!

Gollum is the major reason I am going to see ROTK and from what I hear from you guys he's in it a lot.

Also Tolkien never meant these as books or trilogies. These were stories he wrote to his son who was in the military and he would mail portions of it to him as he wrote them.

Regardless I am sure a lot of people really don't care about the purity or anything like that. Not trying to rain on anyone's parade.

Just remember ELVES SUCK and DWARVES ROCK! FRODO SUCKS BILBO RULES!

Ingus, if you haven't seen the Extended Edition of the Two Towers, rent it, buy it, see it. It adds alot of stuff back in that I think really helps the Two Towers out, like adding the Huorns back into the end of Helms Deep.

Also, the writing of the Lord of the Rings that you stated is only part of the story. After Tolkien wrote the Hobbit, Stanley Unwin wanted Tolkien to write "a sequel to the Hobbit." So Tolkien reluctantly tried to write another story that felt like the Hobbit. He didn't want to write it, but he felt pressured by his publisher. I think one of the original ideas for it was that it was going to be a story about Bilbo going to this island where all these Elves lived to find this dragon's gold. But, that sound redundant compared to the Hobbit.

So, he began writing a different draft with a character who was Bilbo's cousin, named Bingo Baggins. Bingo, then goes off on this adventure with his friends, Frodo, Odo, and Marmaduke. Gandalf sends the four of them to Bree where they meet another "wild, ranger Hobbit" named Trotter. Anyways, as Tolkien wrote the story more and more, he kept getting more frustrated and frustrated and kept starting over and over. Then he finally realized that he wanted to make it really dark, so he include the Nazgul, made the ring inexplicably evil, and changed some names around, and came up with the characters as they are now.

Suffice it to say, Stanley Unwin was quite surprised because he asked for a light-hearted sequel to the Hobbit, and what he got was this really dark, epic, adventure. All of this info is in a series of books written by Tolkien's son, the first one dealing with the Lord of the Rings is called the Return of the Shadow. It's actually quite an interesting read.

Just got back from the movie and if you liked the first two, you will definitely like this one as well. It's a bladder buster though, by my watch it was 3 hours and 20 mins long, give or take a few. I kept wishing for the damn thing to just end. If you like historical settings for movies, although I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan, the "LAST SAMURAI" was a good movie to see as well.
