Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

This is basically why me and my family migrated to America when I was 9 years old. I lived about 90 miles away from where the incident happened in Belarus. Even to this day people who stayed there are dying from cancer and some children are being born with birth defects. I dont really remeber anything else since i was only 4 years old when it happened.

Sorry, doesn't work that way. Bury it, and the problem is still there, and peopel can still not live there. Also, the structure they built around the site is falling a part, and they same problem that happened in 1986 can happen all over again, possibly even worse.

Well, it almost happened here, too. I mean, it was VERY close to happening here.

well when you bury it, the problem will stil be there for anouther 600 years, but at least you can travel through the area without special equipment. ANd I know things like chernobyl can happen again, which is why you need to remember the past to make it doesn't happen again. and yes it is sad that the concrete holding back the radiation is falling apart and no one is doing anything to stop it.

Lord, it does nto help. It is easier to go around the area than to just poor asphalt over it. The ground will still be bad. One crack in that asphalt, and it is in the air again. Also, you can travel without a lot of special equipment presently. All you need is a gieger counter so you know what is bad air, and what is really bad air.
If it were as simple as covering it over, it would have been done already. It is also a HUGE area.
Russia also has problems with it's subs. They are basicaly rusting away in dockyards with little maintenance to their reactors.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They're really saying I love you.
I hear babies crying, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Rule number one: don't build reactors out of flammable materials.
Graphite construction with no concrete containment vessel was an accident waiting to happen. Then again, if you get a real good nuclear fire going, pretty much everything becomes a flammable material.
BTW, who here cringes everytime GWB says nuke-YU-lure? Christ, you think one of his staff would have said something to him by now.

After watching 60 minutes today, I cringe anytime he says anything. I just wonder what the spread is in Vegas on if he gets impeached before the election.

I cringe everytime GWB opens his po-dunk f-ing mouth. F*ck man, i think Will Ferrell dressed up as that so called "leader of the U.S." would do a better job. Hell, i'd take Regan (with Alzheimers) in the white house.
Anwyays, i thought the whole site was badass... My first girlfriend was from russia, Her grandparents almost moved to chernobyl in the late 70's but instead moved to Novgorod. Lucky for them, and lucky for me cuz i actually got to meet them. but thats a whole other story.
Russia is cool, especially Moscow and St. Petersburg. If anyone has the cash or the time to go for a few days, i recomend it.

russia doesn't have enough money to even pay the government workers. They don't have money to do anything about their nuclear subs or enough money to make sure theur nuclear stockpile is intact.

asphalt doesn't hide it. It just doesn't absorb or hold it.
