State of the union address, tonight 9PM, will you be watching?

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I missed it on TV but watched it later on Yahoo.

I like Bush. I don't agree with everything(Patriot act). But I do with what he said. however I was surprised to find out that Saddam had ties with Al-Qaeda and/or other terrorists groups. I'm very curious to see what Powell reveals.

Also I am glad he brought up partial-abortions. Like child labor, it's gotta GO!

Bush needs to stay away from that abortion topic or he's gonna have every woman in the country hating him....

I don't think he lost many points for what he said. While the majority of Americans are pro-abortion (60% last stat I saw) there is still a significant number that are against it. Granted, the percentage of women who are pro-abortion is a little higher than 60%. However, notice that Bush only addressed partial-birth abortions. There is a disconnect in American values when it comes to partial-birth versus earlier abortions. Partial-births are much less popular and are actually opposed by the majority of Americans (can't remember the percentage off the top of my head). Since that's all he addressed, I think he'll be fine.

Another thing to consider is his voting base. Christians make up a significant percentage of the Republican voting base and are almost uniformly against abortion. People who make their voting decisions based primarily upon whether the candidate is pro-abortion aren't Republicans anyway so he's not losing their votes; they weren't there to begin with.

i like bush in general. I would have voted for him in the election had i not been a couple months shy of being old enough to vote. I truly think he means well with what he is trying to do. The only problem that i have with him is that I think he is gonna end up picking fights that we shouldnt necessarily get into. I dont think this iraq thing is going to be a huge problem, but what im worried about is this whole North korea stuff. I really think other countries are going to pick clear sides on this issue. I think this could get us into some deep shit.

edit: side note, i am neither republican or democrat. I truly decide for myself who i think is the best candidate.

I hate the idea of war, mainly because I have friends in the army who signed up for pay, experience and free college and are now talking about going to war. That sucks and if a draft supposedly happened (unlikely) but if it did, my age is the exact target and I'll tell you what, I'dd rather die in a car wreck then die fighting for a cause I didn't believe in. So in otherwords if I had to, I'dd leave the country.

Thats probably because everyone in that room leaned to the left of the political spectrum. No one else would go see a Michael Moore film :D

just out of curiosity, what are the current rules for who can be drafted and who cant be?

what ive heard is that full time college students are put to the back of the list. Ive heard that the last male that carries the family name also cannot be drafted. I was just wondering if anyone could confirm or deny these?

Michale Moore films, pacifism? It sounds like that even if you didn't want to fight Tool, you wouldn't have to leave the country. Even though they can't ask, just tell them about your "preferences" and that'll keep you out of the service.

In response to Edogg's query regarding a possible draft, check out this site: http://www.sss.gov/seq.htm

The Selective Service registration appplies to men betwen the ages of 18 and 26. I often hear people talk about the only-child exemption, but I tend to believe that is more of an urban legend than an actual rule.

You guys don't like michael moore allister, then you still make no real point, seeing as how there is very little oppinion in the movie, just mainly others oppinions and fact, alot of fact that is interesting, and at the end you are left to decide what you think about the facts its not like he tells you what to think. either way I think you can't say that without having any weight in your statement, have you ever seen a michael moore movie or read a book of his?;)

Ok well it looks like I wouldn't be in too bad, I'm the last carrier of my family name and my grandfathers both served so the name would mean something, also I am very opposed and I'm a full time college student so I think I may be ok, but my friends better not come home in shoe boxes or I'm off to the white house to speak to the president. the president is a :tard:

Hehe,
Man, I cant tell you how happy I was after that speech. Go Bush. Bums in Iraq die. Yes were going to war for oil. Why? 1. If we dont inflation slows down the economy even more. 2. Saddam supports terrorism. Fact, after 9/11 who of all leaders said he would provide safe haven to Al Queda? Answer: Saddam Huessein.
Also, George Washington in Farewell address "Americans destiny does not lie with Europe"

For all you liberal dumbasses, USA can and should act unilaterally, look up that word. Liberals are weak.

do you want us to end up acting unilaterally against russia, china, and north Korea?

there is a very good chance of that happening in the not too too distant future.
