US MILITARY ACTION IN IRAQ Y or N?

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Should US and Allies disarm Iraq with military force?

I still own a S&W that I've had for years, but I will not be buying any new ones.

Obviously Anton and Keekanoo are totally anti-American Government (dont know if its only when a Rebublican sits in office or if its an all around hatred)I think everyone does agree, that both seem to be intelligent.

Meatshield raised a question earlier what the world would be like without the US.

I'm going to ask the same question just incase they miss Meat's post. I would like to know exactly how they feel the world would have turned out. Basically all events in Europe would have taken place over the centuries, there still would have been war, but I wonder if the results of the wars would be different.

Who would be running the show? How would the people be treated? Would there be more war? Would there be the peacefull world that seems only to exist in dreams? Or would Man do what seems to come natural, which is to conquer control and kill.

I would really love to know, would the world be a better place without the US?

I'd like to add that they also sound very pro-conspiracy. One too many x-files episondes, maybe?

The truth is out there.

(Keekanoo, was that one post awhile back derived from a Star Wars book?? If it was, you are definitely a diehard geek. Can't wait for Ep. III...)

Rule.... I tried to describe the scene in the Star Wars movie where Luke gets trashed by Darth Vader/Anniken. And what was the movie called? MUhahahhaha 'Return of the Empire'.

Ooops...my mistake....the name of the movie is 'The Empire Strikes Back'....lol

"What, a simple book to rule my judgement?!? I guess that I will just sit here and wait for the little green men to come out of the sky and say that everything is going to be all right."

I confess, enjoying the richness of the irony of your words, I am at a loss for words. Suffice to say that I think the possiblity of little green men existing somewhere in the near-infinite Universe is staggeringly higher than 'God' (whatever you think he/she/it/they are/were). But lets not devolve from the current forum discussion into one of superstition.

Keekanoo, I don't say this to offend, but it seems you're trying to throw a truckload of shit into the fan.

This is off topic, but relevant.
I'm not anti-American. I've travelled through the States and find the people, on the whole, very open. Much like I've found the people anywhere else.

Though I've gotten a bit hot-headed in here a few times and spat some things out hastilly, I think it's a merit to all of us that we're talking about these issues. Naturaly you'll defend your position. Naturally, I'll defend mine.

The issue of Iraq is very serious indeed. The commitment of the States, and by extension the taxes, labours and--lives--of it's people, and, to a lesser extent, the involvement of Britain, is an incredibly important theme. Frankly, given the amount who peruse these forums, I'm bothered that more don't become involved. It's a tragedy when such momentous events barely ripple the status quo. Cudo's to all here who put their two-cents in.

I don't hate your gov't. Nor do I hate mine. I AM incredibly wary of any ruling party which can go ahead--without consultation of the general public and, indeed, actually against it as in the case of the British subjects--and do what they wish.

Governors have three very disparate forces to balance. I don't envy their position. They must bow to the wishes of the wealthy--for it is the wealthy who can ruin an economy. They must placate the average citizen--for without them the work doesn't get done. They must be wary of 'outside' forces trying to take their resources.

We are watching a game of Civilization, real time, unfold. Albeit incredibly more complicated, the similarities to such games--which are designed, after all, on standard human dynamics--is quite obvious. One planet. Many governments/tribes. Limited resources. Mix and bake.

I can agree except for the fact that Anton has established himself completely devoid of credibility, as I stated before. If he is intelligent, he's hiding it better than Jesse Jackson hides his financial records.
I'm not sure, but there may still be hope for Keekanoo.:P

BTW, did anyone see Brian Kilmeade of Fox News do the unthinkable? Yes, he actually challenged a celebrity (Janeane Garofolo, debate her 'celebrity' all you want) with relevant questions pertaining to her position on the war. It is so often that celebs use their status to spew drivel on subjects they barely understand. So refreshing to see one actually have to answer real questions.

Great stuff.

So, did she have any intelligent replies or did she just go "uh, ummm, duh, I don't know" like so many of those protesters did in New York when approached with relevant questions.

(see link posted by Allister Fiend in other thread:

http://brain-terminal.com/articles/...e-protest.html
)
"Well, we're not just gonna let you walk out of here."
"Who's we sucka!?"
"Smith and Wesson and me."

Bayotanzk
(...are you guys all afficianados of Japenese comics?)

The 'prison' thing was an entirely appropriate response (admittedly actually, just a lead-in) to your comment about the US being the 'best country in the world'. The point, veiled as it may have been (though I don't think it is or was) is that the social, economic and judicial inequities of America rather pointedly call into question your thesis. I'm not prepared to go into the whole 'ball of wax' at this moment, suffice it to say that I was not 'straying of topic' at all....merely responding to a thread you had sewn.

And just briefly....The other point you made about 'any country that threatens mine....' etc.

The *whole point is* that *no one* is threatening the US (surely you don't buy all that propaganda about 'imminent bio-warfare attack do ya? ...Hell, I think they got the whole yellow, purple, red alert thing from Star Trek...."Number One...yellow alert!" PLease........And don't forget - All the anthrax in the anthrax scare - came from US gov't. labs. Notice how quickly the press dropped that one.)

Indeed, It' the *US* that threatens everyone else!

It's the one that's on a major imperialist push to takeover the globe.

It's the one with all the *real* 'weapons of mass destruction' (hell, it makes me puke to even have to use such transparent and hypocritical jargon).

It's the one that's abrogated the Nuclear Arms Treaty.

It's the one that has abrogated the Outer Space Treaty (of 1967 - banning weapons in space....Just what we need - nukes in space. Don't we all feel safer now?)

It's the one that has refused to sign the treaty to ban land mines....The one to contain biological and chemical weapons..

etc. etc, etc,

And yet Bayotanzk, you are quite right about one thing...

...We will all be 'sitting back' watching the new 'Rose Bowl' of war unfold on our TV screens.....Whiskey in hand, feet up on the table....."Ahhh...the horrors of war!".....How cowardly.

Oooo <wincing> - I somehow have this strange feeling that Anton's post won't exctly elicit favorable responses.

It's amazing how powerful anti-American propaganda is. It's so easily debunked, yet it still manages to get spewed by some "holier-than-thou" at every corner.
