3dmark scores

Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Evan, there's gotta be something we're missing.....you should be MUCH higher.....

What Cat's are you using? (I'm on the 3.10's)
Maybe a defrag of hd? (not that it should impact your 3dmark that much....)
Maybe go thru your bios settings, try playing with some of the vid/mem settings (like AGP aperature, mem timings, etc.).

I know a synthetic benchmark may not mean a whole lot, but that score would indicate you've got a problem somewhere.....something killing your machine's performance....

I re-ran 3dmark03 with everything in CP set to highest detail, and check out the diff. in score!

Everything was set to minimal/off in CP. What BIOS settings do you recommend?

Sorry 'bout slow response evan, been thinking about it...

As for BIOS, there aren't a whole lot of vid-card related settings, except for AGP Aperature and Fast Writes.....I have mine set at 128mb for the aperature, and FW disabled, b/c my understanding is the ATI cards do not like FW.

Otherwise, mem timings should be as low as possible, except for tRAS, which often times runs better at settings around 9-12, depening on mem, FSB, board, etc. It's something with the nforce controllers, they seem to get better bandwidth with it set higher....

As for further bios advice, since I don't own (nor have ever messed with) your ASUS board, I can't really say what specific settings to try, I'd suggest reading/posting the forums at http://www.nforcershq.com, in the ASUS section....

With all your hardware, short of it being Spyware/virus/background APP (which you say you've done) that's killing your perf., then there has to be something set wrong somewhere.....something silly, like AGP texture accel. not enabled in DX (or something that simple, yet that big).

Evan, look at my 3dmark score and Mugzy's, all three of us
have similar systems. one thing that is different with yours
is the Atlantis Radeon 9600 Pro. from what i have read,
the score is very dependent on the vid card. your vid card
may not be doing as well as our ATI brand cards. maybe do
a little overclocking on your card and see what it does to
your score.
ps: when i say overclock, i'm talking just a little, don't
let the smoke out of that card. ;)

Can anyone beat this? It's pretty lean and one of them is Task Manager which I had to open to show what was running.

Any good programs to overclock my card?

I use radclocker...very simple interface (integrates into the adv. prop. like the Control Panel does), basic features, no frills, resources lost, etc. Others use RivaTuner, Rage3dtweak, powerstrip.....kinda a personal choice, although I've heard alot good about Rage3dtweak. To test your o/c, I'd download a program called "rthdribl.exe", from http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/rthdribl/index.html . It'll show artifacts long before BF will, keeping you from killing the card over time.

Also, have you considered a fresh install of windows? (format, reinstall, update, etc). May fix the problems too.....

Wow im so stupid. I have Dual Channel RAM. I just realized that they are not in the right slots for Dual Channel compatibility.

I fixed that, but I'll play with some of the BIOS tweaks and video card O/C.

Wow Bullhead, majorly something wrong there with your configuration , your hardware smokes mine and yet I get a higher mark than you??? You should be having 5500 and up.. no joke.

Edit:

whoops, that's 3d mark with all highest settings on the card.. (saw your previous score)lol wow 4000 points difference. Crazy eh...

Yeah...and BF runs flawlessly at those settings....so apparently, by 3dmark03 standards, you only need to score a 2300 or so for good BF1942 perf......lol.....

Yup, ati is ruling these tests, of course, the
9700 cost about double 4400 at the time

XP2600+
1GB ram
msi-nvidia gf4400
sb audigy2

Weasel Meat... a cpu score of 92 sounds suspicious.
