Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Well I dont exactly know, really. Walked into store and told guy I wanted to play Wolfenstein and to hook me up with a comp that could do it really well. Says something about athlon on it and has a lot of really big numbers. Oh.... two squirrells on a treadmill also, for battery back up power.

I have:
P4b 2.4 Ghz OCed to 2.81 Ghz
Giga-byte 8IHXP
512 MB PC800 RDRAM OCed to PC1066
MSI Geforce4 ti 4200 OCed to just under ti 4600
SB Live!
80GB WD with 8mb buffer and 60GB WD with 2MB buffer
NIC
Cable with 3Mbps down and 300k up
WinXP Pro SP1
And look at mine. Not all overclocking is bad for your system. My computers on 24/7 and i never have any crashes. You have to understand how to overclock it so you dont cause instability.

I never said I was even thinking about over clocking mine. I already knew an overclocked processor runs really hot and is unstable. I also know that you need water cooling to do it the right way. Frankly, every time I think about having water anywhere near my pc, I get the shivers. Besides, if i was thinking about overclocking I would have ordered a different mobo with my system.
oh...any estimations or predictions as to what my new score will be?

When did I quote anyone regarding this?
I was just agreeing with MmmGood's assesment of overclocked PCs on MadOnion's "Top Scorers". All the top PCs have scores in the 20000, but he's right....they fudge or overclock their PCs as much as possible just to eek out the fastest score, with stabiliyt and reliability taking a back seat.

not all overclocking needs water cooling only the extreme ones cause instability and major heat. Mine barely lets off any extra heat. Its up to finding the right chip set mine is made to run at faster speeds. The chips arent made for only one speed they are made for a range of speeds, its cheaper to make one chip then multiple ones.

Nuke im not buying the fact that your processor doesnt let off any extra heat, considering it is overclocked by 600mhz. You must have a shitload of fans and one hell of a heat sink.

Mine is OCed 400mhz and only lets off maybe 3-4C more idle than it did when it wasnt OCed. I have a damn good cooler.
I currently watercool my PC, but with my old air cooling solution, it was around 5-6C difference.
If you know what your doing, you dont need watercooling to OC your PC.

ok on the site that I ordered my new system from, they have a p4 2.4B ghz processor and they have a p4 2.4 ghz processor. I bought the 2.4B, and was just wondeing what the diffeence was between them? I think...but im not entirely sure that the 2.4b has 533mhz bus, while 2.4 has 400mhz. If thats true, then it is funny because the 2.4b is actually a couple bucks cheaper.

Your right Edogg, 2.4B has 533 mhz FSB and 2.4 only has 400 mhz FSB

Price is based on supply and demand, not what is necessarily better. You still made a great choice in my opinion!

This is my system, all I can afford right now, and not embarrassed of it.
P3 1ghz
GeForce 4 mx 420 (PCI is all my motherboard supports)
SB PCI 512 with EAX
512 mb soon to be 1g of pc 133 ram
I'm just really dinging overclocking, I'm just flat out afraid to do it though.

I work in retail, and last week they added the new P4 3.06 processor to the lineup of the HP and Compaq special order machines. 3 gigahertz! According to Moore's law then, that means that by spring of 04 we should expect 6 ghz processors.
Fri Dec 06, 2002 5:27 pm
I read, from several sources, that not only does AMD's Athlon 2800XP keep pace with the much more expensive P4 3.06Ghz, but that it actually surpassed it (albiet slightly) in a few tests...all for significantly less mullah.
Long Live the Underdog!
Nice system, Edogg. Same case, m/b, CPU and video card as me. The red PCB looks el-neato in a windowed case...
