Keekano...obviously you have an agenda, and it's obviously anti-establishment, not just anti-war. Socialist Democrat, or whatever they call it now, is that your political stance? You know, not QUITE communist(since it obviously doesn't work) and not quite socialist, but halfassed inbetween. Hey, take it elsewhere bub, I'm yer worst nightmare, a liberal anarchist republican(fuck everyone, give ME the power).
Seriously, those little blurbs of yours are extremely politically charged and have nothing to do with the issue at hand. I know exactly who pays for any military engagments the US is in, anyone over the age of 12 in the USA(with a modicum of intelligence that is) knows this fact. I also know that it's OUR friends, family and neighbors who'll be the ones going in and fighting and dying. If possible, I would be one of the people going in, but I'm physically unable to join the military, and believe me, it bothers me greatly at times. I know others are giving their lives for MY freedom, to protect my rights and the future of MY children, and I can't.
Saddam is a danger to the Middle East/Africa/Asia/Europe at the current time, with the weapons he currently has. He is FAR from disarmed, a fact you are greatly mistaken about. The UN resolution called for all 'weapons of mass destruction' to be destroyed, there's nothing about conventional weapons in it. And we know he's still got WoMD, that's what all of this is about. Catch up, get current, THEN try to present a viewpoint, ok?

That really applies to you specifically in this case Keekano.

Keekanoo,
With regard to your "it is about wealth and money", safety in ones own country could probably relate to wealth, heck if you had your own business, someone probably would have come to visit you selling terrorist insurance, pretty pricey, and not covered by standard insurance. Additional security measures in the US are going to cost everyone something! You must be right though, we as Americans could not possibly give a hoot about our safety and detering future attacks. You talk about Iraqi civilian casualties, either earlier in this post or in the UN post there is a link of a c130-h (puff the majic dragon/Spooky). You need to see, in this actual tape, how acurate our weapons systems are unlike those of Iraq. By the way didn't they shoot some scuds into Israeli cities back in 91?

Your a fiesty lot, I'll give you that much. I'm glad that this exchange hasn't devolved into knuckle-dragging name-calling. I'm still expecting to be labelled a terrorist, soon, though.
Hmm...where should I begin? I think I'll let the Burt Reynold thing go. Best let Burrty and his toupee fade away... Bukkake...where do you come up with these pics? What depositories do you cull all these pics from? You're a strange man....
Kristov...."I'm yer worst nightmare, a liberal anarchist republican(fuck everyone, give ME the power). "
Not at all my worst nightmare. We can only hope for anarchy at this point to shake things up. Though where you get liberal and republican from in your self-expressed idiology is mysterious....
Kristov...."Saddam is a danger to the Middle East/Africa/Asia/Europe at the current time, with the weapons he currently has. He is FAR from disarmed, a fact you are greatly mistaken about. North Korea commits far worse attrocities and has far far more dangerous weapons. What about them? Or, India? Pakistan? China? Russia? Any of many countries in Africa? Could it be that Iraq, stripped of anything serious, having had every single military location mapped out, it's infrastructure crippled from embargos and secret bombings is a far easier target? Easy as..*gasp*..Afghanistan was? Well--lets not underestimate the Afghans. Despite their society consisting of numerous warring factions, and despite their strongest military structure being a thatched hut, they gave a real tough fight. Yup. Boy they gave as good as they got. Real brave fight there. Something to be proud of. Something to tell the kids about. "We took our ac 130 gunships right into those villages and gave them bastards hell. Course, not until after the stealth bombers had flattened those commy-lovin' bastards first." Or some such drivel. lol. Too much. And some of you guys don't even see that for the sad truth it is. Insert 'commy-lovin bastards' for whatever politically correct term of the day is.
An informed opinion, eh? Hmm....and what secret in do you have to the Pentagon, pray tell. Or could it be your ultimate 'right and informed opinion' is no more than a belief you've developed gleaning info from various tabloids.
I didn't give an informed opinion. I stated from the outset that I don't know what's going on. What I did do was apply simple logic to the equation. Read again if you have difficulty with the math.
I'm ex-military. I'm also an English citizen. I have duel citizenship with Canada. I'm not anti-defence. To be honest, I reactivated my status with the Forces the SAME day as 9-11. At that time I was sufficiently concerned about the ramifications of the attack that I felt the shit was really going to hit the fan. It still might. North Korea has already stated they will attack with nukes if the States tries to come on their soil. This mess with Iraq is far larger than merely some puppet named Saddam. Or the phantom-menace Bin Laden. They do make for great marionettes, though. Dangled across various media sources as the scourge of the modern world. Made to dance some jig that will ire the populace into frothing mad-men.
Again--Saddam could have been taken out easily. The States didn't. Ergo...what do they want? It's a chess game. Saddam is a media putz. A pawn.
On the bright side, once the States has Iraq, they won't have to pay off Turkey or anyone else in that area for using their land. They'll have a wonderfully strategic location for.....what?

Keekano...as I said, you are entitled to your INFORMED opinion, which you've stated more then once, you are uninformed of the situation, making your opinions invalid.
Saddamn Hussien has one of the largest ground forces on the planet. He had the 3rd largest, if memory serves, at the start of Desert Storm. A rather impressive military with an impressive record and more combat experience then the Coalition forces had. They surrendered at the first chance usually, as most of them were not happy with their leader and his decisions. Or did you forget that?
The embargos that have hurt the Iraqi citizens so badly are aimed at the military, not the civilians. Food and medical supplies ARE sent in every month, and guess who gets them? It isn't the common people, that's for damn sure, Iraq LOVES to make that clear don't they? What they don't like to make clear is that the military is taking all those supplies for themselves. And, lest we forget, the human shield defense that Saddam loves using, and doesn't actually give a shit about. HE'S got no problem killing civilians, his record shows that, either other country's OR his own. Oddly enough, there's lots of people going over to Iraq to BE human shields from other countries..so Saddam doesn't even have to worry about rounding up women and children himself now, as he did in Desert Storm.
As for assassination, the US hasn't used that as a tool of state since Jimmy Carter made it illegal. Or had that little fact also escaped your notice? Bush Sr was all for doing that to keep Desert Storm from happening, but, the US doesn't HAVE that kind of infrastructure in place, anywhere. Our intel agencies aren't what they were during the 50-70s, more info gathering then operational forces. All public record, known and talked about at length for years now. Bin Ladden would never have gotten to be a threat if we hadn't outlawed assassination as a tool of state, nor would Saddam, and numerous other well known enemies of the free world in general. Somalia and the events there wouldn't have happened, Bosnia and the events there...etc, etc. So much for your 'opinion' on that subject.
The US actually stands to gain nothing by taking out Saddam, monetarily. We don't need that oil, and we wouldn't GET it to begin with. We aren't going in with operational plan to take over the country, but to replace Saddam with someone who isn't, hopefully, going to be aiming missiles loaded with all kinds of fun crap at other countries. And, in case you hadn't noticed(as so many people won't), the US is pushing for a resolution to the UN resolutions that Iraq has YET to follow after over a decade of time. All Saddam has to do is what he agreed to do over 10 yrs ago. Simple as that. Bush has pushed and pushed for action, but, please note, the US has not invaded Iraq as of yet. We've accepted plans to wait a little longer...and then a little longer..and a little longer yet again. Maybe people aren't seeing this obvious ploy because they simply hate the man making them. Why bash Bush? He's actually doing what the majority of the US population WANTS him to do. Or has that also escaped your notice?
As for Korea, that's a totally different bailiwick, and if you were up on world politics and events, you'd understand that and wouldn't try to muddy the waters. Korea has been an issue since the 50s, hasn't changed, and isn't likely to any time soon. North Korea wants the respect and honor of being a nuclear power, simple as that. They don't care HOW they get it, just so long as they get it. If they have to nuke themselves to oblivion, so be it, they'll do so. Their 2 nukes are aimed at South Korea, and they know they'll be killing themselves if they use them, but they simply do not care. It's about honor and face, nothing else. They want to be recognized as a nuclear power, equal to the US and Russia, simple as that. Once the US acknowledges them and talks to them as equals, it'll all be good again until they want more..which they will want, they always do.
Get informed, then make your opinions known, otherwise, you simply waste everyone's time with your pointless drivel.

This while still claiming to be uninformed; no, wait -- you've proven you're uninformed. Yet you see the "sad truth" that the rest of us do not.
BTW, there were lots of Conservative Democrats during the Reagan years. So why is it so hard to believe there are such things as Liberal Republicans?

Doug the Unforgiven.. "...you terrorist!"
*Sips his morning coffee and smiles*
--There, that wasn't hard, was it? Muhahahhah.
Kristov.... It is readilly apparent that you swallow, hook line and sinker, the party line. You insist on believing that what you've read in People's magazine or some such mass-fodder water-downed propagandasized rag is gospel. Literraly. Gospel. Lets pray. As if anything written to support the Imperialist doctrines of your country are penned by 'God' him/her/itself.
You actually believe that a country which will use military force en masse, causing massive colateral damage to civilians, gives a shit about some decree that they don't subscribe to assisination? So...it's ok to kill hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands, as long as CNN can get tastey pictures for our night time meal viewing pleasure?
That you think this is about Saddam and not actions aimed at others in the world is scarey. It reminds me of a time I hung around with a doctor from the States. Beautiful woman. Smart, pretty, and fundementally one of the scariest people I've known. Not for her military background--which was extensive after some 20 years of service. Not from her physical health, which was practically Olympian. Not from her astute mind and ability to asses situations quickly. But from one thing. Her belief that God stears the American way. She actually said to me once, towards the end of our time together, something like: "All that political mumbo-jumbo doesn't mean much. When I get a command as serious as helping a team launch a missile (nuclear), I know that God wouldn't allow it unless He wanted it to happen.
I respect discipline; I've served for awhile myself and know how important it is. I respect having to knuckle down and bite one's own thoughts in order to do something that will help the group survive. Iraq isn't attacking the States. So far there has not been ONE shred of a connection between Saddam and the 9/11 terrorists. Lots of conjecture. Implications. Inferences. But not ONE actual connection. On the other hand, it's common public knowledge around the world that most of those terrorists were from Saudi Arabia. But wait....after the States has a launch platform in Iraq, they'll be able to slap anyones hand in that area easily.
Speaking of no connections.....Collin Powel, lacking ANY actual evidance, made up a compelling case for attack from mere inference and suggestion alone. 'Now look at these satelite photo's. See these trucks here at this known weapons manufacturing plant. This was taken the day before a known weapons inspection. Now lets look at these photo's from our satellite the next day. The trucks are gone. Gone people.' This statement implies, especially with his onourous weighty inflected tone, that these trucks were full to the brim with bio's or chemicals, and that they were ferreted away before the inspection team arrived. Hans Blitz sites this specifically in his address, mentioning that the vehicles were a known part of the encampment and were garbage trucks. Followed and tracked. Collin Powel forgot to mention that. And it was a critical part of his presentation. Did you miss all that Kristov? Or did you sit back at home, nodding greedily, your hands twitching for your rifle, ready to book an early flight to Iraq yourself and start blazing a path of justice?
You know what--I don't have a clue what's in those trucks. I don't know if they even exist. I don't know if Powell was right or Blitz. I really don't. Nor do you. But you believe one side. THAT is what's really scarey about this. You simply believe what you're told. Cut and dry. We could both trade back and forth 'informed opinions' until the cows come home. Oh, but wait--because I don't tow the party line, I don't have an 'informed opinion'. I'm some kind of wacko rebel who should be taped to a Tomahawk with 'good riddance' crudely printed in lipstick on my ass. Ooops. Did I mention missile? Did I mention a long-range weapon fired at another country? I thought only Iraq did that. Those bastards.
