A landing craft in Maine

Postby Chacal » Wed May 21, 2003 12:55 am

Folks, last week-end I was in Leeds, ME, and while driving near a lake I saw... a landing craft! It was anchored in the middle of the lake. It was gray-blue and had big white letters on the side: LST-<some number>. It was exactly the same boat as in the game.

Now Leeds, ME, is about as far from anywhere as it can get. I have no idea how, and why, a LST would be dropped there.

Next time I go there, I'll try to get to it and inspect it. And perhaps find what the hell it's doing there. Perhaps I could borrow it for my summer camp? Imagine assault troops attacking the beach dueing swimming time. Kids would freak out. :D

If it was an LST, then it might have been a little bigger than in the game. More like this:

It could have been a motor whale boat... the navy/CG still uses them and they look very similar to the landing craft in the game, but no fold down front ramp...

That's what I thought, but I try not to question the motivation behind the intenet anymore. It looks like the site may not have been completed though. I can't believe someyhing like this would run out of funding though. I mean landingship.com should be a cash cow along the lines of shermantank.com and aichival.co.jp.

No, much smaller. It was really similar to the ones in the game, both in size and in shape.
