And I have him on my fantasy team. I'm afraid he will be suspended for 10 games or so.

Small park, steriods, corked bat = overrated player

note: look at his pics when he was a sox compared to now. Noone gets that big on their own (I say the same about Big Mac).

Not that I think either was all natural, but it is a fact that, if you continue a workout program, you get 'fuller-looking' (not just bigger) muscles as you get older. It is possible to get that size w/o anabolics...

As far as Sammy goes, BIG black mark on his career, All of his gaudy numbers are going to be questioned... (see Albert Belle)

I agree.. possible. But I fully believe Camaniti (spelling) and his relvelations about abuse of products in baseball. The players reluctance to allow any testing has given strength to my belief.

It's a well known fact that nearly everyone in baseball uses some sort of enhancing drug. Hell, MacGuire was practically schilling for Creatine during his 15 minutes of fame.

I agree that most athletes in most sports use some kind of performance enhancing "drug". Which makes it more of a mystery why someone with the power of Sosa would use cork in a bat to boot.

BTW. Creatine is a supplement and not a drug. Much like vitamins, protein, ginko, etc. It is easily purchased over the counter and, if consumed while also ingesting at least the RDA of water, really has no (known) ill effects. Without plenty of water though, the most common side-effects are cramps and torn-muscles. That said, I'm sure that as more research is being performed, some negative long-term side-effects are sure to be found (I'll bet that one will be kidney issues in long-term users similar to issues experienced by people who over-supplement with protein)

BAseball is different. There is no drug testing and the players fight it severely. I believe that Big Mac did a hell of a lot more than Creatine... it served as his "excuse" for the amazing increase in body mass he acquired. Poeple do not put on that much mass without dedicating their lives to it, and baseball players do not have enough "off-season+ to do that. Barry Bonds has a serious program, and he has bulked up. But not in the incredible way that Big Mac and Sammy did.

I think that they both were (and are) 'roid heads.

I think Mac got his 'workout' program from Canseco when both were in Oakland...

Look at most sports throughout this century. Basketball, football, hockey, etc etc - the players have the same build now as they did in any period of their respective sport.

When you look at baseball, pre-70's, virtually all baseballers were very skinny, lanky characters, and the few others were fatties. Pre-1980, baseball was not knnow as a sport of the muscular or well built athlete. Nowadays the players look like they've been pumped up with an air pump. They all use enhancers like a dog uses a bone.

I agree with you about the baseball players being bigger but most aren't grossly over-muscular. *Most* baseball physiques can easily be had with a couple years of hard weight training, stretching, and a good diet. Almost every baseball player (except for David Wells) has incorporated weight training into their exercise program. Not that many of them aren't cheating a bit...(see above)

It's the football players that seem to me to have gone out of this world. Offensive linemen are averaging well over 300 pounds. Defensive lineman are coming close (Ted Hendrix was only 220, Merlin Olsen ~240). QBs and WRs are getting above the 220 mark.

Look at the hockey players of the 60s and 70s, they didn't even hardly use any protective gear...now that's hardcore.
