I don't think he should be banned for life, but I think a full calendar season including playoffs is minimum with charges of assault.

I used to love bertuzzi as a player, such a threat on the ice with his speed, size and skill. But I have lost it for him because of this. It would be a different story in my opinion if it was a spur of the moment rage thing. That sort of happens...but I think the main thing is that HE WAS LOOKING FOR A CHANCE TO HURT HIM.

Now, today I heard for the first time since the incident bertuzzi speak on an interview and of course he is very apologetic. I am sure he didn't mean for it to be this bad, but he was out to hurt him, plain and simple. And for that, the right area in a punishment would be IMO....Half a calendar season to full calendar season suspension with full charges.

I am a huge NHL fan, and this was the worse case I have ever seen of intent to injury. Hopefully the NHL Board will be firm on him but give him a chance to redeem himself at the same time.

he obviously feels bad and never meant to do what he did, but I agre with Havoc, and the rest of you, that he has to be accoutable and responsible for what he did.

Disagree. Who would really want to set skate on the ice with this clown after what he did? I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable playing with him. Should have been banned for life.

The whole "the commissioner will make the decision..." thing is BS, plain and simple. They might as well have said "we'll re-consider letting him back in after the media and the public have forgotten about it". Unbelievable.

He got off light, IMO. I just wonder how far they'll let crap like this go before they start taking serious action. Probably until somebody dies, which is unfortunate.

I would like to see charges filed against the man. We had a hockey coach get in a fight in a town over here two years ago. He killed a kids father in a fight in the main lobby of the rink by repeatedly smashing his head into the floor in front of onlookers.

Smashing people up side the head should be dealt with by criminal charges.

Yeah, I remember that - that was horrible. Beat the man to death in front of his kids. He got life for that, I believe.

Ok, living in Colorado Springs, I'm an Avalanche fan and I'm disgusted about this whole incident BUT and here's the big BUT - how do we know that Moore's neck wasn't broken when the Avalanche player jumped on top of Bertuzzi who was on top of Moore?

Granted, this doesn't make the attack any more acceptable but if this ended up going to court you know that this will be brought up.

Yes he did. People forget the power of a fist. To smash someone in the face with your fists should be dealt with to the highest extent of the law. I say we start a petition to have the guy banned from hockey for life.

It's OK to be sorry and the jury should consider his remorse, but the fact stands we cannot condone the vicious beating of another person.

Can't say I always agree with this HaVoC old buddy. There are some people out there that really need a good ass whipping.

Not that I am defending Bertuzzi. Dude should be punished and punished hard. This isn't the kind of sportmanship we want young kids watching the game to aspire to. Don't forget that there can, and quite likely, will be charges pressed. This was just the NHL once again refusing to police itself but thats ok, theres nothing wrong with the Canadian police.

there should not be charges pressed IMO. Yes it was deliberate, but the fact of the matter is that this happens in just about every NHL and AHL, ECHL, etc... game, it is just the injury that varies. If nothing else, I hope that this is the catalyst for cleaning up the cheapshots and crap in the league that goes on all of the time...

Tommy, you're exactly right. The injury shouldn't be the determining factor. Whether he broke his neck or bruised his elbow, the potential for major injury is always there when attacked in this manner. If they're going to press charges, it should be for all attacks - major injury or not.

When a civilian is mugged, it's a crime whether or not the person is severly injured.

The Avalanche are my favorite team, and watching that hit just disgusts me, Steve Moore is 60 pounds lighter than Bertuzzi, im not against fighting in the NHL, i love it when 2 heavy weights go at it, but this was a cheap shot, and bertuzzi had his glove on. If both player drop the gloves thats fine, by all means go at it, But Todd Bertuzzi did not even drop his mits, He hit Moore in the back of the head with a glove, I think he should be criminaly charged for assault with a deadly weapon (the glove)

I dont think Bertuzzi did any1 a favor by that hit, steve moore has a fractured neck, bertuzzi is out the rest of the season, the canucks are our 2 million $, but more importantly he made the NHL look like a joke, and is reflecting badly on canada, while i realize that not just canadians play hockey, but any football,baseball,soccer fan will say hockey is a canadian sport.... thus making canada look bad....

For the benefit of those who've never played hockey, why is it worse that he was wearing the glove? Boxers wear gloves to soften the blow, right? Please explain.
