T3546 thinks Finland is on the Scandinavian Peninsula

Answer = it is not, although according to wiki, it is sometimes "considered to be, along with Iceland and the Faroe Islands", probably mostly by people who generally don't know what they're talking about. But how exactly are Iceland and the Faroe Islands part of the Scandinavian peninsula? Lord only knows.

Anyway, "Considered to be" does not equal "It is", in anyone's book. Get it yet T3546?

Of course T3546, if you acually LIVED HERE, you might be able to ask the neighbours.... I have, and of the 50 or so Norwegians/Swedes I've discussed this with, not one says that Finland is in Scandinavia. I'm cool with that, because I know it isn't.

So why do people think that Finland is in Scandinavia?

a. Well, Scandinavia and Finland are all classed as "The Nordics".

b. The countries share the similar values and have similar social structures (know as the Nordic model to those who read books).

c. They are located very close to each other.

Not really, on the basis that we know Canada is part of the North America. I don't think many people will dispute that.

I guess it comes down to social vs geographic regions. I am sure that Canadians get called USA citizens in foreign countries, when they travel off continent around the world . For the most part there are little language differences mostly in some spelling and a bit in dialect, that some one that is not from the USA and canadian would not hear or understand. Even most USA citizen from the south would not pick up on the differences between far north USA and Canada. If they had not talked with Canadians in the past.
Some of the border state in the USA pronounce word similar to the Canadians. Like "About" vs "Aboat" or "Pra ject" vs "Pro Ject" I have friends from all over Canada and Minnesota they "sound" word very closely.

Yes "Nordiac" would seam a better way to class it though.

What I am getting at is that Canadians might take offence in being called US citizen just as Irish and Scottish don't like to be piled in with the Britain's (even the Welsh and Brits), or the French and Germans, or the Spanish and Mexicans, or the Greeks and Italians. I have to come back to this. What on earth do you mean that Finland was part of German territory that was "stolen". Germany didn't come and steel any Finnish territory. Merely Finland was fighting a common enemy, Russia.

There is an "American stereotype" image in Europe, of someone who has a loud mouth and is ill educated in history and geography. I work with a number of American who I think are great guys, and for this reason I continually aregue against this stereotype on the basis that I think it is incorrect. Please don't prove me wrong.

Well I am German moved here to the USA. Once again Finland is the first country on the Scandinavian peninsula boarder by land mass Per your definition, and how far is it from Sweden by way of sea. Sure its not Scandinavian but good god it is so close it is easy for non Scandinavians to group it there.
