What are you using in your system?
The poop on hyperthreading...
Apparently hyperthreading allows the operating system to "mimic" dual processors.
I've read that nit certain circumstances it cann help when multi-tasking, but in rare circumstances it can actually hinder performance...albiet, minimally.

Yeah I heard some funny shit, A teacher showed me this way you can make some AMD 700 or 800 mhz processor 1.2 ghz by drawing a heavy line on the chip with a pencil. It supposedly makes some extra connection that increases speed. It has to be drawn pricisely though. Rad shit. It only works with very specific versions too, but I forgot what exactly it was. All I know is what I gave ya's.
O/c 'ing AMD
Apparently to overclock some AMD CPUs you have to close a gap between circuits on top of the CPU....this can be done with conductive paint.
I'm not into anything that requires me to change, bend or alter actual hardware. I mostly stuck with voltage, multipliers and memory timing when I over-clocked, but like I said...I had very little luck with it so I never stuck with any changes I made.

Here is a nice article on unlocking your Athlon/Duron with the pencil trick. It doesnt work on newer XPs though

Yeah man, I got a cable modem too, graphics are almost all the way up on my comp, just at 16 bit color, medium ejecting brass and normal corona dist and thats about all I haven't cranked up, I even run at 1260*1080 resolution, I would go 1600-1200 but my moniter doesn't support it. Also yeah MMmmGood, that pencil trick is the bomb isn't it? thanks for the link man. o and yes your system ownz jme. lol, 4 times the benchmark anyways.

system specs
Well Its late but I figured I'd post my system. Its old but still performs ok.
650 mhz p3
CUSL-2 asus mobo
IBM 7200rpm 20gig harddrive
Geforce 3 Ti200
Sb live
320mb ram
Comcast cable in the same state as the oc48 server, 15 or lower ping constant
The processer is overclocked to 866(reads 871), been stable like this for years with a golden orb fan.
Geforce3 Ti200 is overclocked to 190 and 440 memory clock.
Scores a 4900+ in 3dmark2001. Not bad for a old/cheap system, especially a overclocked 650mhz p3 system. The processer/mobo was actually given to me
Oh yeah, that score is on a unmodified windows ME.

i dont know whats in my box. my brother said he was going to a computer show and if i wanted a new computer i should give him money. off we went to the computer show. $600. later and an hour of putting together the damn thing...i had a newer faster computer than the piece of junk i had before.
there could be starved hamsters on a wheel in the damn thing and i wouldnt know the difference.
my homeless friend just brought his computer up to my room so now ive got a second and its got a window on the side, like 6 fans and neon light by the window(whatll they think of next?)...its a little faster than mine. i put his compu on the chair next to the couch i call a bed. getting up and walking 5ft to my computer was getting to be a bit of a stretch, i just gotta get me a catheder (sp?) and im set! yeah!

I just found out today that if I go work my ass off, I can get enough to built a system to these specs in my hardware class.......
A new P4 3.06 Ghz
whatever the most stable motherboard is for that(I haven't done my research entirely)
my SB pci 512 sound card
hopefully a new GeForce Fx but most likely a GF 4 Ti 4600
as much DDR ram as I can get on the thing, or 512 probabily
my cable modem of course
maybe a 19" moniter but I'll start with my 17"
and a 7200 rpm hard drive of whatever size

this is a cool site to buy any hardware in my opinion.
they actually sell overclocked cpus, memory, and video cards.
they have all of the stuff for your gaming needs. I thought I would post it for those who are interested in building a pc in the near future.

Personally I wouldnt trust an OC I didnt do myself, and the fact that you pay all that money to have em not only build it, but OC it too.
Overclocking is a learning experience, and its fun at the same time.
Oh and Tool, I hope you got a lot of money
