Well, they are made by the same people, and the title is: Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.
That can be the reason why people like to compare rtcw with ET. Another reason is that thousands, or milions of people have all be waiting for the great moment that ET get released. Now ET is out, and 53% likes ET, and 47% doesn't like ET, they want to discuss WHY they like/ don't like the game, compared to rtcw.

well et was developed by splash damage and rtcw was made by activision . it clearly states that when you start the game. other than the wolfenstein name i really dont see much to compare.

ARGHH!! You guys are getting almost as bad as the BF1942 guys. Thought you were above all that?!? I do have feelings of elitism in some areas of life, I don't deny (no matter how hard I try to suppress them). However, they certainly don't revolve around video games (especially free ones). Now Wilson is trying to correlate level of income to preference between RTCW vs ET?

I do like ET, it's a great game. The new guns, expanded classes and new maps are a great break from the same old RTCW. The increased emphasis on team-play is also nice. However, I tend to come back to RTCW because I really like its 1v1 battles better. They're both great games, one just happens to fit my preferences better.

Wait ET has bad graphics and lag??? I have seen the graphics and they look ok but RTCW looks better maybe it's just me. UH anyway how can you tell how many FPS you get and whats a good number?
