what do you do with linux games?? do you DL or buy them????

Depends on what game, and if it has linux support, or not. Of course, theres ALOT more to playing games on linux than installing the games themselves.

I do not know anything about Linux, but what I do know is that a couple of months ago, some ppl were really pissed at EA and dice, that they didn't support Linux. And actually, if windows an macs can run games, why wouldn't Lunux?

When I installed Debian II some years ago, the QUake II package was included.

question? if you buy a game it says compatible with windows 98 2000 nt me xp. does it have to say compatible with linux before you can install in on your computer if its running linux.
the reason why you guys use linux server is because they are more stable but is that the same for users?
thx

Yes, but you can run some Windows apps and games on Linux throught the windows api emulator WINE and WINEX.

The OS is stable, the stability of the apps that you run on the OS is another thing.

I installed Linux and got RTCW running on it. It ran fine, I didn't see it being noticably better than windows though. I think most games that are based on the quake or unreal engine can be run on Linux, but I don't know for sure. There are some *extremely* lite desktops (as in they use very, very little resources) that can be run with linux, so I guess it's possible gain a little performance. It's sometimes tough to get straight answers from Linux gurus because they are so in love with that OS that they are blinded by it.

No.

When the RTCW demo came out I spent quite a bit of time playing it on both windows and slackware linux. Installing and running it was a little bit of black magic, and the linux never ran as well as the windows version, I think the graphics were holding it back mostly. The demo was specifically released for both at the time, but I don't see the linux version today.
On the plus side, the red hat 7 freecell game has unlimited undo commands!

Spectre,
How well do these emulators work? How much of a performance hit is there from running the program directly on a Windoze box? I run a few Linux boxes, but have never tried one of these emulators, so am very curious, but don't have the time to tinker with it if it's not really worth the time.
TIA

If you want to run games on those API emulators forget about it. From my experience there is a 20%-40% loss in performance and lots of graphical glitches on most games.
The apps that those emulators are able to run loose about 20% in performance, but a few( like Flash MX ) run as fast as if they were running on windows.
Overall you will need to tinker a lot to get most apps/games running decently.
