Wow. What's really cool (and isn't mentioned anywhere on the ubisoft site) is that it's based on the XIII comic book series, one of the greatest comic series in the world. It's in French (or perhaps it's being translated?). I've read them all. The game visuals closely follow the book.

You have to understand comic books in Europe (especially Belgium) are entirely different from those in the US. They are hard-cover, high-quality works of art. Pick up a "Asterix" comic book at your local bookstore and you'll see what I mean. They're like a novel: a book is usually a complete story (up to 50 letter-sized pages in color), they're designed as a book from the start, not as a daily strip. The quality of drawing is usually quite amazing. I think I'll scan a page and post it here.

What I've seen in the US is either bound collections of daily newspaper comic strips, some of which are quite good, like Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, The Far Side and so on, or Marvel-style crap.

The XIII series add a complex and intriguing story to that visual quality. So far I believe 15 books are out, I dunno if the series is all done.

Gee, now I'll have to read it all over again.

Here's the XIII series web site (expect Flash animation).

Click on "Entrez", then after the Flash intro click on "OK" under "simple visite".
