Crashed My Computer

Mon Oct 27, 2003 9:55 pm

   I crashed my computer today, i was re-installing wondows with the recvoery disks because my BF doesn't work and it wasn't a problem with BF, so when i was deleting all the files, my computer froze, when i re-started and tried to do it again. i got a drive O error message and my computer froze again. Since i don't have an O drive, i think something may be wrong. Tomorow i will have the pleasure at contacting those helpful people at Gateway.

what OS are you using? I can help you with reformatting your computer from scratch if you'd like. I had to bend over backwards to get ME to work properly half the time, and I'm pretty good at formatting/installing XP on a system. It's pretty easy if you have the time to get it done.

to be honest with you im not sure...i screwed it up when i installed ME without uninstalling Xp and i had the option of running both...im pretty sure its XP though

Oh yeah i have reinstalled xp 7 times on this so you need any help let me know. just delete all the particians, make a new one on the ntfs one. full not quick. then put in the drivers disc, install all the drivers then put in all the programs you want from the other disc i have reinstalled too many times.

Mon Oct 27, 2003 10:24 pm

dude thats my exact problem..what ever a partisian is..i dont have one and thats why i cant reinstall windows...thats funny you mentioned that..and when i laod it up i get the error message i dont have an nfts installed or something

Mon Oct 27, 2003 10:27 pm

well a partician has to be made on a certain file or what ever on your hard drive. a partician is like a fraction of your hard drive, say you want two different OS's on one hard drive you partician the hard drive....like 20gb to one OS and 30gb to the other...understand?

Paul try this and see if it works. Put the XP disc in your CD rom. when your PC starts, go into your bios (usually by pressing DEL or F8) and tell it to boot from the CD Rom.

Save and exit. your computer will boot up again, and it will read the XP disc in the drive. It will then ask you if you want to install XP, blah blah blah, and it will tell you that you have to reformat your HD. select yes, and it will reformat it for you. Then it installs XP and you're on your way.

(if you purchased the XP upgrade, it during the installation it may ask you to insert windows ME)

if that doesn't work, just come back and tell us what went wrong.

If you have to re-install XP 7 times..you shouldn't be using a computer.

nope, but i cant do anything to my computer without getting error messages and it freezeing, and im not good with formatting, i usually jsut use the system recovery disks and do the step by step process, but now it doesnt work because because it froze while intiating the reinstallemtn of windows, and when i tried to reinstall windows after i restarted, it said a driver o message and something about particians

also, some bios' read from the CDrom automatically, so if yours does, ignore the part about going into the BIOS to change the boot order.

Paul you have to reformat your hardrive first. if you're trying to install the OS again, when there are already 2 on there, it will freeze and give you trouble.
