killer, do you you have a wireless access point or wireless ISP?

Working at Best Buy, and selling Pavilions on a regular basis, i'd have to say that is a good choice.
There arent many *good* Laptop manufactures out there. Dell, Segar (Ailenware), HP and Toshiba are on my trusted list. The others are ok.. but not as good IMO.
Also, you have to think what you would do with a Laptop. If you would run heavy apps on it, then yet, upgrade the processor. But when I get a laptop, it will be strictly for web browsing, chat, and ecgn tech work. So I dont need an extreme system (thats what the desktop is for.)
Just my 2 cents. But a good choice, never the less.

I would check out
http://www.sagernotebooks.com also.
I have this one
http://www.sagernotebook.com/pages/notebooks/product2.cfm?ProductType=4760&SubType=V
And I love it. My only beef is the battery only lasts like 90 minutes
That and you can get it WITHOUT an OS and save a hundred bucks

Don't buy HP laptops. They all overheat and they will all be in service very quickly.
Also, the charger connection in the back is very delicate and has had lot's of trouble.
I was a Tech Sup at Best Buy and I was in charge of sending back defected machines etc.

I'm thinking about getting a laptop this summer and was looking at that site. I didn't see an option to not get an OS though. Where is that?

You have to email them direct.

Ok, cool, good to know.
This is a general question for anyone who knows about laptops. When I get one I wanted to get one of the centrino ones for the integrated wireless. It seems that most of those are fairly expensive and not very fast. I'm looking for the most bang for my buck at about the 1300 dollar range, maybe +/- 150-200 dollars or so.
Would I be better off just getting a non centrino laptop with a wireless card in it?
Thu Dec 04, 2003 11:12 am
The main advantage of the Centrino laptops is low power usage. They run between 1ghz-1.5ghz and use a lot less power than a standard P4 or AMD.
Although bear in mind you CAN get built-in wireless in laptops, mine has the option for it. I didnt get it at first, but I think im gonna go ahead and order the part, as Charles has a laptop with built-in wireless and it looks like much less of a hassle of having to dig out your wireless card and pop it in everytime you wanna surf.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'll probably end up going centrino then if I do get a laptop. I'm not planning on gaming on it so I don't need a full blown p4 or anything. I also want something that has a decent battery life which makes centrino a good choice.
Thu Dec 04, 2003 11:34 am
Yeah see I use my laptop for gaming, so thats why I have such high-end hardware in here. If I didnt, I would definitantely go Centrilo or mobile AMD and get three times as much battery life

I would never by any computer that HP, they make good printers and thats really about it. I'd try dell or sony or toshiba.

I think QVC is doing an all-day special for that HP Laptop on the 7th, might want to check it out
