I use both hardware and software. THe software I usually have disabled for online games but for the rest of the time I try to keep it enabled. This is for extra security when dealing with outgoing packets (nice to know what application is using bandwidth and when) and possibly incoming packets on rare occasions.

btw deathBOB at the very least you should get some freeware anti-virus or software firewall.

Maybe you do have viruses except you don't know about them because you have no anti-virus program....the plot thickens

If anyone wants a link to a FREE LEGIT (100% LEGAL) copy of Norton Anti-Virus Corp. Ed. give me a PM. You can update virus defintions as much as you would like also.

If I do have viruses they do not effect me in any obvious way... The worst problems Ive had are random driver errors and registry shit with windows... I came on the other day and found out I had no drives, virtual or real! Some bug with the resgistry that took me 20 minutes to track down on google and fix ohh well...

The router I have is a D-Link, I bet it has a limited built in firewall... I used to have a Linksys Router From HELL that had an uber firewall but wouldnt let me play games....

Honestly, that anti-virus stuff scares me. Doesnt it get really deep into your system and is pretty much impossible to remove? I find the more stuff (any programs) no matter how small or larger, the more problems I have with windows and stuff...

Kinda related question: Why am I missing a lot of .DLL or .OCX files? Sometimes when I install programs (such as BF Secure for CAL) it gives me this stuff about not having the appropriate .DLLs and .OCXs... Then I have to find them and put em in... Shouldnt a relativly fresh instal of Windows have these?

Look at the model numberon the front of the router, BEFW11S4 is the B model and WRT54G is the G model.

If you're sure you don't have any viruses, that's the least of your worries.

If you have no viruses I'll be surprised. If you have no spyware/adaware, I'll call you a liar and remove your penis with a dull kitchen knife.

The one in SP2 is actually pretty nice. Slick interface, and "On by default".
