DO NOT ask for Canadian Bacon on your pizza.

American: "Could we have C. bacon on that?"

*waiter in icy tone through gritted teeth* " we don't call it that here-you mean Ham."

*then muttered quietly by same waiter* "fuken American assholes go home."

So remember that when traveling abroad. Try not to create any international incedents.

Remember: Don't be an Ugly American!

What the heck are you talking about? First.... I've never seen Canadian bacon offered as a toping, 2nd, I've never heard Americans addressed that way (or any nationality come to that) in any restaraunt. Ever. Sounds like an isolated incidant man.

Mind you, having been a patron of many restauraunts in Canada, I'll hasten to say that Canadian wait staff are doing you a favour to 'serve' you. God help you if you get the wrong order or ask, for the 3rd time, for a glass of water. The only time they're consistantly nice is when they present the bill, then it's with a flourishing smile that would stop an axe-murderer, and a sway of the hips (female referance of course) suggesting your wild desperate flirtations (non existant) have warmed their heart and they're strongly considering bearing many children for you.

aha! as they say " and now for the rest of the story."

The scene: Atikokan, Ontario [90 mi. west of Thunder Bay]
Several years ago. Pizza Resturant.

Re: first part of the conversation- pretty much verbatim. Of course we did not look at the menu, we ASSumed that we would have the same menu selections as in the US. [hence the Ugly American]

Re: second part, well the look seemed that way?!?! Maybe it was a bad day for her. Maybe we were sensitive. It had been a long trip up from Texas.

Maybe we were touchy, having pretty much pissed off at least one person per state on the way up. Being from Texas doesn't seem to spread the love too well to others it seems. And certainly the further up north we got.

After getting chased for about 20 miles in Minnesota, from pointing out that spitting tobacco in someones parking lot was OK, I 'spect we might wondered about any more "welcomes" that might be coming our way.

Finally walking over to eat in, Atikokan, a car drove us & someone inside yelled "Yankees go home!" We looked around, not seeing any "Yankees" decided that they were confusing us with "Yankees" which would kinda piss a Texan off you know.
So after waving goodbye to the fellas in the car, as they waved at us, we were rather unsure of our welcome any longer.

Anyway, to make a long story short, we left Canada without further incident, and I have been back several times for rather enjoyable visits.

[Let me tell you about a trip in Mexico sometime. WOW.]

[And Thunder Bay still has a kik ass hockey squad, I tell you what now.]

Yep food that's burnt on the outside and still frozen in the middle is our particular speciality.

I agree- if you get good service, kick out a few pounds for a "gratuity". Cause it is so nice after being treated like a member of the lower classes or like a colonist.

Speaking of cusine. Um yes, questionable, but a set of "bangers and mash" at a pub/earery can be quite good. Have always had pretty good luck with that. But that is kinda hard to mess up too.

Be sure to have it wit' a Guiness tho'.

yep- it must seem that way. You know everywhere I go, somebody is always causing trouble for me.

I on the otherhand I am bright, caring and a thoughtful person.

I do not understand these problems.
