What's up with all the hackers?

Re: What's up with all the hackers?
I'm not going to wade into the situation with Mofo -- I have no beef, never have, so I'm not going to create one.
But speaking entirely for myself and no other admin, I do think a lot of the remaining players on ECGN have a real ego complex with getting owned and assume if they get taken, it must be hacking. MUST be. I think this dynamic has gotten worse over the last year, when I had a couple people accuse me of hacking.
Me. *me!* FFS! I'm terrible. My kill ratio is like .6, if I'm really lucky. I play purely to have fun, as I really enjoy this game. I get such a thrill the rare times I beat a truly good player in a 1-on-1. I don't care how many times I get three-shot-dropped trying.
So may I suggest, as someone who's played on ECGN since the OC48 Gaming days, for the rest of you to not only bemoan the state of hacking in online games, but consider adjusting your attitude toward gaming too? If you're getting this worked up about something that's supposed to be recreation, it may be time to uninstall and try something else.
Take it or leave it. For the rest of you, see you on the Beach.

Re: What's up with all the hackers?
FYI, when Sorry plays Axis, he likes to sit in the basement hallway by the axis barracks, to the left of the doorway as you approach from the upper base stairs hallway beyond the boxes. If you throw a grenade through the doorway and bounce it off the far wall so it goes to the left, you'll instagib him every time.

Re: What's up with all the hackers?
geez Cateye with a statement like that you act as if noone ever hacked. In all the games combined there's probably close to 100,000 people caught with hacks if not more. So if you were referring that comment directly at me then just say so.
In all my years of playing RTCW I may have gotten "Most Kills" once and that was in a 1 on 1 match.
I couldn't care less about HS and kill ratios, look at my stats they'll prove that, what matters most is teamwork, revives, handing out med-packs/ammo and most importantly THE DOCS. In a game where you have 15-20 ppl busting their balls only to have some bull**** player make it all for nothing is unacceptable. I don't play this game to provide enjoyment for cheaters.
I'll be first to admit that there's hundreds of people better at wolf than me, is there any who work harder to get the docs home or secured? I doubt it very much.
If a player doesn't have the brains to play the game correctly, that isn't my problem but if they're getting extra help then yeah it is my problem.
If even one hacker is allowed to play it brings about that situation you were talking about where everyone is accusing everyone of hacking.
I think I've been at ECGN for close to a year now and honestly I have only told about 5-10 different players that their game was bs. And in all cases it turned out to be true.
The "can't beat-em then cheat-em" doesn't sit well with me. I'm a very competive person maybe to a fault. But it doesn't change the fact that hackers suck and they are the lowest pieces of sh** out there and I don't just let it slide, if there's anything that can be done about it then I will give it a shot.
This game is now going on 7-8 years old now, if there are players that have played since the beginning and still can't tell when something isn't within normal operation of the game, it's time for those people to uninstall.

Hey Cateye thats your spot in the basement.. My spot if the right when you are coming from the backstairs
Lately ive been camping upper bunker a lot so If you see me playing axis expect me to camp that spot
seriously tho, the game is getting boring now with all the same suspects doing their thing... I play this game for fun but people either hack or people bitch about the hacks... Its time I get admin status.
p.s. Cateye hacks

"some players skill level"
Next time I hear that I might ****ing puke.
Well if you're still alluding the the fact that you believe I hack, then I'm not really sure what the point of that reply was. And for someone that finds himself on the bottom half of the stats game in and game out, your opinion on who does and doesn't hack doesn't(and shouldn't) really hold much merit.
Trust me. Nobody gets hacked more than us, and it's BECAUSE of players toss around accusations without any definitive proof. We've driven plenty of players to hacking, just because they say that they KNOW that we do. It's amusing to us because we, too, feel the same way towards hacking as most of you do. And we're very good at picking out hackers. We've played at a much much higher skill level than most everyone on that server, so we know more than most what's possible and what is not. And we know how to critique a demo properly.
It's funny. Remedy has probably been accused more than any other legit player in the game. He's been to qcon, played in front of people, and even had an over-the-shoulder video recording of them playing RTCW while doing the usual raping of opposing players. Even after, players still can't let go of their hopes. Some people just need to convince THEMSELVES that yes, some players really are that good.
As for your comment, Savage, it's hard to give respect when we receive none. I'll be on there by myself, and all I hear it "Hack this", and "Hack that". So yes, seeing those people disconnect in a 'flood of tears' does put a smile on my face. And when you think about it, that's almost everyone on the server.

Re: What's up with all the hackers?
So if you were referring that comment directly at me then just say so.
Had I been referring specifically to you, I would've said so. It was a generalized comment bourn out of yet-another-thread on the ECGN message boards about hacking. You are expressing a majority opinion, so there's no need or purpose for me to single you out individually. My commentary is I believe the majority opinion is misguided, that the true impact of hackers is minimal. You can disagree. But I would also encourage you to *consider* a different approach since I don't believe the operation of this server, now in its... what, eighth year? ... is going to substantively change.
That's all.

Re: What's up with all the hackers?
Remedy is legit, he's just very good. I never really believed he hacked. I remember Remote Desktop-ing into his computer once to help him with something. It wasn't a planned thing, he had nothing to hide on there, nothing out of the ordinary.
Intentionally stacking a team to drive away players is another story. If someone is intentionally ruining the experience for other players on the server, I'm gonna step in and do something about it.
I received complaints about MoFo and Remedy doing this a while ago and they were banned then. I lifted that ban and guess what...now I'm hearing the same thing again. Fuck it...I'm not gonna drive away the game's few remaining players just so they can play on the same team together. Don't really give a shit what Ventrilo server you're together on...pretty lame reason...it's a pub not a CAL match.

Re: What's up with all the hackers?
As for being on the same vent, I'll elaborate. I'm simply referring to teamwork. It not far fetch to say that 90% of the players on that server have no idea what their doing. I really dont care about objectives much, so most of the time I'm just going for kills. If we wanted to win it on allies, we would. If we wanted to full hold every game, we could. We know this, so we just go for kills. But sometimes it gets so spammy, and you start to feel like a one-man-army. I'll tell Rem to jump on so I can have a competent teammate. It's nice to be able to play w/ someone the can take some of the weight off. It'll be 20v20 and we're being held in the trenches(or at least the rest of my team is). But when Rem jumps on my team, we're 'team stacking'. We've had teams stacked against us in so many servers, it not even funny. But, it's still fun, because it's a challenge for both of us to work together against such bad odds. It's what makes you a better player. Whenever we join a server, we'll seek out the player or team performing the best and join the opposite. But it seems that this stock of players is more content just calling us hacks and throwing their grenades. Instead of stepping up to a challenge, they'll prefer running to admins to get us banned. And people call us pussies. While it IS just a pub, it's still a game based upon competition. So don't say that YOU'RE driving them away. And don't say that WE are. Players willing step into a competitive atmosphere and get beat. And they, like everyone else that's played the game, have options to pick from. Those options include leave, or try and get better so you can compete. But somewhere along the line, admins found it easier to just start banning the best players to level the playing field.
I was bad once too. But one day I decided to try and get better, so I spent my time going up against the best players I could find, or specing them to learn their thought process. And during that time, I never once cried hacks.
The other day I was on w/out Rem, and posted a round of 101-8. We held the other team in the trenches easily. So why is it if Rem is on my team, and we have the same outcome, we get bitched at for team stacking? But it doesn't go both ways? It's because of a bias opinion towards us. And that, my friend, is no way to admin a server.

You are not wrong there, RTCW is the most paranoid game I've played. You literally can't go 5 minutes without someone accusing someone of hacks. Why'd you think I stopped playing? It gets old dropping into spec every 5 minutes to spec a player who's entirely legit then spending 5 minutes arguing with their accuser before getting accused of being a hack lover and called an idiot...
And yes Mofo I've seen you get shit for 'hacking' and I've gone to bat on that on more than one occasion, but why should the admins extend themselves like that to defend your honour when you won't even do a little thing like try and keep the server populated for us?
There's plenty of other people on vent that don't feel the need to play on the same team. As for having teams stacked against you, lol. I know for a fact Rem disconnects if he's getting anything les than a kr of 3, last time he got stacked there was a different George in the whitehouse and he had a powdered wig...
It's a GAME, it's primary function is FUN, not competition. It's like turning up at a little league baseball game and pitching at 150mph, sure maybe you are teaching the kids a lesson, but more probably you are just being a dick...
Re: What's up with all the hackers?
Fun, frustration, elation. These are all emotions that are spawned from the competitive nature of human beings. If you enjoy the competition, you'll have fun. If you don't like competition, you probably play Second Life.
As for your little league analogy, I played, so I'll play along. We went against teams that had some of the best players in the league. We got beat every time. But we didn't write a petition to the league trying to get them separated or banned.

Re: What's up with all the hackers?
Put all the hack discussion aside, because I'll say right up front that I don't believe you or Rem do (or ever did)
These 2 sentences don't go together, so which is it?
This game is based on a team objective and most of the players on the server understand this and try as best they can to work together with the team they have.
We try to keep the teams balanced as best we can in player number and skill level so the rounds are fun/more interesting for everyone on the server. Most of the admins have been around a while and know more or less the skill level of the players that are on at the time. So, it's a little frustrating to see players that undermine that goal by intentionally team switch/stacking.
Is that so hard to understand?
Anyway, if you don't agree with that style of admin-ing...fine..you don't have to worry about it anymore.

/close?
i hope not. haven't seen a good arguement on this forum in a while and i'm enjoying it. as far as hackers go i'll do anything i can to not believe someone is hacking, but once in a blue moon i'll have my doubts because here and there a player i've been able to beat with my eyes closed destroys me repeatedly...but then again it could just be me.

If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.
Re: What's up with all the hackers?
Well, those 2 sentences can go together, depending on your interpretation. Sometimes I'd just like to have someone that knows how to revive me. Being flanked isn't fun when you're already enjoying the fight against 5 guys that you're already engaged in. Sometimes I'd just like to have someone that knows how to watch a flank.
It's getting real tiring or hearing everyone cry about team stacking. If it was a whole clan, then yes, I could see your point. But when 2 players jump on the same team in a server already running 25 players in it, I'm not sure you have much of an argument. We just like to play together. Like I said, put everyone else onto the other team. We don't care. We're not trying to stack a team. And when we do come in, we'll almost ALWAYS join the team opposite of the best players on there.
And yes, it's hard to respect the admining on a server where the admins will mute you when you're just defending yourself, will spam expletives to you in pm's, will global out false threats to the server, and will ban you for team stacking when you make up about 10% of the team.
I've never been banned before on any other server for being on the same team as one other player. The whole idea of that seems ludicrous.
