Michael Crichton, the author of Jurassic Park, Andromeda Strain, Rising Sun, Disclosure, etc died of cancer today.
I really enjoyed a lot of his books, he'll be missed.

I enjoyed most of his books. Sad to see someone go so soon, especially a talented person.

He was such a unique writer! I loved the way he took 2-3 seemingly unexciting subjects and built them into an exciting story.

Jurassic Park=paleontology+cloning+chaos theory
Timeline=time travel+quantum physics+medieval society
Rising Sun=East vs West business and culture clash+murder mystery

The range of subjects he covered was astounding, and his ability to make these things exciting led to pretty much all of his books being made into a movie, though some of those movies were not up to the same quality as the book!

Andromeda strain the book scared the bejesus out of me when I read it. Might have to dig it out and read it again now.
