6.1 Surround sound

Tue Jun 17, 2003 10:58 am

Hey guys,

Was just wondering if anyone here has 6.1 speakers and thinks there worth it. I have an Audigy 2 and im thinking bout getting the creative 6600 series 6.1 speakers. Is it worth it? And will it work with Battlefield? Only a C-note. I think its worth it. Could be wrong tho. :freak:

I have the creative 6600's. You have to think... nothing currently supports 6.1 sound. So.. its kinda a waste. ALTHOUGH (the reason i got them) the pack a serious punch, and are well worth the money I spent for them.

I love em, and i would recommend them to anyone.

I also have the 6600's. I spent more than a c-note on them though and I think theyre worth every penny.

Cool, thanks for the input.

I'll be picking them up this weekend hopefully.

One more question, I also have Xbox and was wondering if i could somehow hook them up to that or the TV/DVD player. Erm simply put will it work on stuff besides a PC. Do i have to buy an adapter or some other overpriced doodad.

If the 6600's are made for PC, which they prolly are(I know nothing about them obvisously) then they will have a digital input plug, im guessing. Now if u have ur xbox hooked up to a fancy receiver with digital outputs it should work. Although since it is made for PC there is a 50/50 chance u will get the right digital input, either the cool optical, or the wierd looking digital output i found on the back of my audigy2(possibly coax.. but i dont think so). So... better ask the guys that have the speakers what type of digital input they support.

Ryan ur from Dayton, Ohio?? Awesome i live there too... well not exactly few miles north, u know where Huber Heights is, close to I-70 and I-75 intersection?

Well I finally picked up the speakers and am pretty happy with them.

Too bad battlefield doesnt support surround sound but raven shield is damn sweet with the setup.

But what the hell is the deal with the outrageous price of speaker stands? It's 50 dollars for 2 and another $25 for 1 more. Thats like 90 freakin dollars after shipping and handling just to get stands for rear speakers! Almost as much as the damn speakers themselves.

Is there some generic brand out there? I've searched and cant find anything. To the people that have em what did you do? Im using a ghetto setup right now but I cant do it for much longer.

Any help is aprreciated.

Maybe I'm hosed, but I'm pretty sure BF supports surround. Well it seems to for me. I can hear planes from all directions when I'm using the AA and I can hear people running behind me, tansk shooting me from behind, etc...

I have the GameTheater XP7.1 with the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 and it seems like surround to me anyway.

I have a Creative Inspire 5300 5.1 speakers which I rarely use. (Plantronics .audio 90 headphones) and I just cranked up BF this saturday because I had a friend over and switched my settings in my sound control panel from headphones to 5.1 speakers and BF sounded amazing. Thundering bass and from what I could tell... very positional 5.1 sound. I would hear tanks behind me and to the left as I should and planes flying overhead from my rear right to the front left speaker, emulating the positioning perfectly. So does this sound like BF doesn't support 5.1 sound? That's my question...

Im almost positive it doesn't support 6.1/5.1.

I beleive it only supports 2.1 and the virtual surround sound where it fades sounds that are behind you in the left or right speaker. Also there is no option in menu for it.

If you have raven sheild then you would know what true surround sound sounds like. Or maybe its just me but i dont notice any difference in BF from 2.1 to 6.1.

Almost all the games I've played recently support surround so it's to be expected that BF would have it. I'm pretty sure I've read many reviews that said it supported surround sound. I don't think what I'm hearing out my back speakers is just lower volume from the front. Unless my ears and all those reviews are wrong. Wouldn't be the first time :)
