15 seconds to vacate airstrip

After running over to the airfield on guadalcanal tonight, an admin stated that plane campers would be banned. Once I got turned around to make my way somewhere else, an allied plane came swooping in around the hill, and I decided to make a run for the AA gun and try to shoot him down. I actually got in and was able to bring the gun to bear when I was disconnected, and apparently banned.. Is the ban permanent? I realize that plane camping can be a problem, but does that mean we can't defend the airfield? Should I have just run from the airfield like my pants were on fire? BF42.com #1 is far and away my favorite server, I'd hate to have to move on due to an unfortunate timing misunderstanding..

I was riding in a jeep leaving the airfield when I got kicked,
I'm sorry I didnt leave airstrip fast enough.

What happened was I was flying a plane and got shot down, then respawned to the airstrip, I waited some, but no planes then saw the warning and was leaving the airstrip anyways, I saw somone in a jeep and got a ride, when then I got kicked, which now seems to be banned, I am very sorry. Can I get un-banned?

Please can I play on #1 again, please.

It was me who banned you both. I suggest you all read the rules. In particular, read about plane camping. Since all our planes were in the air there was no need for you guys to be waiting at the airfield. I watched you all for a while before I took action. I only gave you guys 10 minute bans each, so you should be able to get back on now. As I stated before though, read the rules!

Another good suggestion is getting and installing TeamSpeak. This way you can communicate with a majority of the people who play on this server as well as the admins!

2: Vehicle camping: At no point shall anyone vehicle camp, just as the server message that scrolls by states. A little clarification seems to be in order on this one : Vehicle camping is the act of sitting and waiting for a vehicle when ALL VEHICLES ARE IN USE! Take Kharkov, each team gets 3 planes. You see 3 friendly planes on the map, do not wait for a plane, however, if you only see 2 planes on the map, you may wait for that 3rd plane. Exceptions - Wake, if the Airstrip is contested, you are seen waiting on a plane, you will be kicked for not only plane camping but for being a total idiot as well.

I've been playing online games with igloo17 for 5 years and know he A)follows rules and B)is not a smacktard. In fact he leaves the servers because of them. He explained to me what transpired and as far as I'm concerned, the ban was excessive, if not insulting as he is a "regular". I've yet to see a plane spawn before I respawn after being shot down. It's no different than some that ALWAYS have tanks each time they return. I wonder if an admin would have been banned if given just a few seconds to respond before the ban as I've seen 'cough' admins pushing the limits on rule #2.
We use TS on our own server. I use ECGN TS only to report tk'rs etc because I don't like to expose my son to the vulgar language that seems acceptable there.
I'm not intending on being confrontational or critical, realize many decisions are subjective or not always perfect, and I don't know the other guy's situation, but I think igloo17's ban was unjustified. Besides that, it was longer than a 10 min ban as he gave up after an hour or so. Now if you guys would catch the really blatant offenders, this would seem trrivial.
So let's clarify.....if you are shot down, is it acceptable to respawn back to the airfield to wait for the plane to respawn? If there are more waitng than there are vehicles available, should everyone leave excecpt the first guy there?

It has been acceptable for an admin to kick a non reg so a reg can get in, I for instance will rarely use this, usually i will just wait a few mins for someone to kick ie tker or camper, however if i have to kick someone to make room it will usuabbly be someone with a neg score or lowend of the scoreboard. Again I personaly am not crazy about this but we have been given the okay to do so. I think it is a rare event all together.

I wanted to delete that because it seemed contentious, but now that you responded before I could edit, that answers my question. So, what defines a regular? I dare say I play more hours on ECGN than than probably the majority, but have had this mysterious disconnect more than a few times. If it's done to rid the server of tards great, but low scores don't necessarily reflect the skill level or contribution of the individual to his team. Depending on my mood of the day, I may go for maximum kills, other times will just want to do harrass the enemy, gray flags or whatever to free up others to advance. I think it happens more often than you say though.
I wouldn't mind being an admin as I am even tempered and use common sense, but will tell it like I see it even if it makes people uncomfortable. I don't fit well in cliques, so I guess will never be officially accepted as a "regular". Maybe that's why I have my own office at work isolated from the rest of my co-workers lol.

a reg is basically considered some who frequents the game nightly, the forums and TS on a daily basis.

couple of examples:

let's take conan the librarian as an example. He is on TS when he plays, with us not a private server. He is on nightly and he also forum posts. We know his name we know his style, we talk to him and he has been around for awhile. We consider him a reg.

NOW..

the other side to a reg would be...

Lets take Jackall for example. He is a good player, he is on nightly, but does not use teamspeak or the forums. Now there is more of a chance we would kick him etc etc before a more PERMANANET reg just for the fact he is not on teamspeak and because we can't chat with him about a situation, we assume he should know better and know the server rules.

Those are the 2 kinds of regs if you think about it.

I understand the part regarding vulgarity, I myself have caught myself more times then not with it, but .. it happens with most people. Nothign we can really do about it. If we DID do soemthing about, I am afraid teamspeak would be empty

Perhaps wearing headphones when playing *as some do* and then using our teamspeak channel so only you hear what's going on is a possible solution.

I hope I helped a bit.

PS.. The kicking someone for a reg to get on rarely ever happens. And when it does us admins generally take a good look on who we are kicking to see if they fall into the reg categories. Do mistakes happen? Sure, but generally a quick *hey that was my friend* assures that we don't do that again.

for one if you were kicked it would say kicked...if that is the case i would get back on and ask why i was kicked.
like buli said it is very rare that it happens. and we look at the whole situation.. most of the time we just say someone disconnected (on their own or by the bot) so try now.

Thanks for all your advice, I'll start using TS when I play on #1 and #2, and try to frequent the forums more often, thanks again for all your advice and help, I'll also pay more attention to the map to see if all the planes are already taken so as not to appear as plane/vehicle camping.

Again I'm sorry for vehicle camping and I'll try not to let it happen again.

If it says "disconnected", then you have NOT been kicked, either by an admin or by the bot.

I re-checked the log and I apparently hit the one day ban instead of the 10 minute....they are right next to each other. sorry

Regarding, RCGlider's comments...

When you sit in an admin's shoes, THEN you can determine what is excessive. Plane campers are one of my pet peeves, and after hearing several complaints about it on different maps, I decided to take some time out of MY game playing to go and baby sit the plane campers. Because of chat lag, I rarely give messages since I do not know when/if other will see them. Unfortunately, for the people at the airbase, I see a plane camper I ban/kick a plane camper. The ban is always 10 minutes (unless as noted above, I hit the wrong button). The reason for doing this is so that true plane campers will move on to other servers and hamper those teams instead of the ones on this server. There is NOTHING excessive about that. I'm not going to get into a he said/she said here, but the fact is, there was no reason to spawn at the airbase. We had other flags available to spawn at, that needed defending, and as I previously stated, both planes were in the air.

As far as being insulted, I would recommend 'thick skin'. It is no big deal. I have given other regulars 'time' to cool off when it is warranted.

Regarding the language on the TS server, I agree that some colorful language is often used. However, 'vulgar' is subjective' and I can only agree that it gets 'vulgar' rarely. I like the fact that this is an 'adult' server and that we have 'freedom of speech'. As long as the language (in TS or CHAT) is not hateful, I DO NOT have a problem. Regarding protecting your son from hearing vulgar language, GOOD LUCK!

Your comment about not trying to be "confrontational or critical" is just a joke. That is what your entire post is about! I can feel your disapprobation from here.

Serious question: Maybe, I'm not understanding but isn't the first guy camping, too? In fact, isn't the first guy the worst camping offender since he's been there the longest?

Read rule #2 again. Sadly, when all the planes are NOT in the air (ie when you know one is going to spawn) then you may "wait" for it to respawn.

So if your teams has 3 planes, and you can see 2 in use, then ONE guy can camp.

I hate this rule but I have to enforce it.
