Keyboard problems

Postby MoDyna » Sun Oct 19, 2003 9:38 am

Being a "Help Desk Analyst" I can be pretty stubborn about these things, but I need my buddy's help. Here is my problem.

I built myself a new gaming computor a few months back:

AMD 2700+, ASUS A7N8X Mobo, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 1 gig of PC3200 memory, WIN XP Pro, with a wireless Logitech keyboard and mouse (MX700). I'm very happy with the performance and thats with no overclocking of processor or video card. However on my keyboard, whenever I am holding down the "W" key, or any key for that matter, for an extended period, it locks up. I have to release the key and then depress key to get going again. As you might expect this is a real pain in BF42. I thought at first it was a safety feature of the wireless keyboard to save the battery and posted the very same question to the Logitech forum. While I got a couple of response's, nothing that helped. I then swapped out the keyboard with my old PS2 connected KB and to my suprise it still happens. Wow! So now I'm back to square one. I'm thinking now it's an WIN XP Pro issue, but I've checked all the settings (Control Paney/Keyboard) I can think of and can not find what might be causing this issue.

Anyone have an idea?
:help: :help:

Mo, check in control panel, under accessibilty options. I don't think W is anything by default, but you may some option enabled in there that's causing an issue (I've had it screw me using shift for PTT in TS.) Not a 100% answer, but it might be where your problem lies

Also, are you using the native MS drivers for the keyboard, or the Logitech ones? Maybe it's a driver thing?

Thx Bullhead, that did not work so I will try a new driver and see if that works.

Worst case, have you tried another keyboard? Maybe the controller (or the key itself) is going south? Does this type of thing happen with any other key? just a couple random thoughts......

Yep, originally had a wireless keyboard, then went back to my PS2 connected keyboard and still had the problem. This is strange. If it was an XP/Driver issue you would think someone else would have the problem too.

strange indeed. Have you tried reinstalling windows? (as much as I hate the suggestion, it does tend to fix alot of phantom issues). Also, maybe your repeat rate is set wrong, causing the issue? (you can check it in the control panel, keyboard). I dunno what would be correct, but maybe playing with that would help? Hell, maybe it's even a BIOS option/setting that's at fault, although I''m at a loss right now for what it would be........Good luck!

Hey, did you try to check your Mobo control panel (Press delete if you want to run setup) the solution is maybe there... I builded such a computer with the same Mobo but, as it was not for me, I did not test that... Maybe there is a possibility in the setup...
I hope It'll help
