ATI X800Pro released today....
Lotsa reviews out there, here are the ones from my fav. websites:
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjEx
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=2044
http://techreport.com/reviews/2004q2/radeon-x800/index.x?pg=1
Also, hardocp has a good read (very tech) on the nitty gritty behind the new ATI cards.... http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjEw
For the lazy, a summary would be this: ATI still has better Image Quality at the moment, using current drivers/directx, and both ati and nvida perform very similarly (that is, the eat current gen games alive). The ATI cards could run higher resolutions and/or higher AA/AF than the nvida cards in some of the more stressful games (FarCry, UT2004, etc), but nvidia tended to do better in OpenGL games.
The key here is that new stuff is coming in the way of drivers for both (nvida's need alot of work), and new version of DirectX (which opens up new features on the Nvida cards which ATI does not support), and new patches to support these new features (specifially, FarCry will get a patch once the new DX comes out, and Nvida cards will get a HUGE perf. boost as a result).
It's gonna be a fun summer

X800XT PE is faster in games such as farcry, which is what future gaming will be like. Nvidia has a leg up in call of duty, but if you're going to be buying one of these super expensive cards to play that game, there is something wrong with you.
Have you guys downloaded the Ruby demo off of ATI's site? it looks amazing, and it's real time too. that's how the card actually looks!

To me the biggest news is Gabe from Valve stated HL2 runs 40% faster on the new ATI cards than it does on the new Nvidia cards.
PS3.0? Wow, there will be a total of maybe 5 games by the time the next generation of cards comes out that feature PS4.0 Super Ultra XT.

Keep in mind though, that Far Cry will support PS3.0 when dx9.0c releases. While the image quality will not be any better(probably), the performance will be MUCH better on nvida than ATI (unless they can get some slick driver optim. out by then). Remember, PS3.0 is more about flexibilty and performance than image quality.
Now, in future games like HL2, Doom3, etc. that don't support PS3.0, the ATI's will probably continue to shine.....

Negative. I have this odd feeling that my 9800pro is going to get "sick", and I'll have to take it back to my old Best Buy to have it replaced under warr. for a x800pro. What a shame.![]()

sneaky sneaky sneaky! but then they may just replace it with another 9800 pro because there are still plenty of them around...maybe you should wait a while to do it?

40%? wowzers.
and this PS3.0 is hyped up way too much. games are barely even using 2.0 yet. when 3.0 becomes widely used in a few years, the next generation of cards will be out. and even if 3.0 is included in games earlier, I still haven't seen any screenshots showing the differences between the two. in the Nvidia presentation they shoed a DX7 shot with no eye candy, and then the next shot was PS 3.0 which looked a hell of a lot like 2.0

haha, nice one

I probably won't upgrade for a LONG time. I finally got rid of my POS K-car and am buying an integra, so money for my computer will be stretched. good thing I got the 9800pro on sale when I did

Dude, K-cars are the best. You're gonna be kicking yourself for it, I still am..

Anyway, donations are currently being accepted for Murgatroyd's Radeon X800... err.. I mean "Save the Children" fund. I accept paypal.

ah, not really. it stalled on the way to one of my final exams, and now that our mechanic finally got it going, it's making huge clunking sounds.
I already put 3 transmissions in that damn thing. I want to push it off a cliff

What kind of car is it? I had a Dodge Aries and that thing was bulletproof. Drove it something like 40,000 miles without an oil change, and it didn't so much as sputter.

Well, this should drive the price down on the 9800 pros, and then those of us who are more 'financially challenged' will be able to continue our long-standing trend of staying slightly behind the current edge of technology...
Amen
