Need to scrap a car

Postby Wairudo Enjin » Wed Dec 03, 2003 5:16 pm

I need to scrap a car, but I have no idea who to call, what to do, or how it works (as far as, do they come to pick it up, do I get paid for the scrap metal, etc).

Anyone have any answers or can point me in the right direction? :)

TIA

Surely there are some junkyards that'd take it off your hands. I'm not sure if they'd pay you for the scrap metal or not. I know you can donate used cars to charities too if that strikes your fancy...

You may not need to scrap it....if you just want to get rid of it you can donate it to a school, most of the time they will even come pick it up....

Do you want money????

Most steel yards will take it to,you need to find out what to price of steel is,they will buy it by the pound (and you need to have a clear title)

If you donate it, you can write it off on your taxes. I don't know anything about the link below, but check it out if you want.

I wanted to donate a car once but found it to be a hassle. What I did was put a sign on it. "Free you tow it". Once the garage sale junkies came out on a Friday morning I had two people want it. I told them first guy back with a tow bar gets it. :-) It was gone in two hours.

Salvation Army and a buncha other organizations will give you a $500 Tax Deduction for your car, and they will pick it up.. Check the phone book for some reason its under "Sports". Thats the only reason I remember it.

I appreciate the suggestion of donating the car. This car is not in a condition to donate. The only thing that the car is good for is the scrap yard. I am just not sure how the process works. :)

I dont know what kind of condition the car is in.....but if you donate to a school's auto body class they can fix it up and give it to charity....something to think about.

nazi killer is right. call a junk yard and they will come and pick it up. you should be able to get some money for it. they will part it out so it is worth something.
